For those of you looking for the smallest running treadmill possible, you can’t get one smaller than this without losing functionality. The DeerRun Z10 Pro proves that walking pads can have an incline feature. It also folds down to work as a walking pad. It does everything you need a treadmill to do in the smallest space possible.

DeerRun treadmills are compatible with a training platform known as PitPat. This training service has free and paid features. With the app paired to the DeerRun Z10 Pro, you can compete against the PitPat community, track your training progress, and more.

I tested the DeerRun Z10 Pro to see for myself how good this treadmill is. I also used the PitPat app to help you decide if it’s worth it. Keep reading for a full look at the Z10 Pro and PitPat.

Who needs a fitness treadmill and a walking pad when you can have a two-in-one treadmill? The DeerRun Z10 Pro has a console that folds up and down, easily converting your treadmill to your needs. From your morning run to a midday walk at your desk, the DeerRun Z10 Pro has you covered.

I previously tested the DeerRun A1 Pro, and I thought there were improvements that DeerRun could make to the folding mechanism. I’m happy to see that those improvements were made on the Z10 Pro. DeerRun proves that it’s willing to innovate to stay ahead of the game, while keeping its products at a very low price.

DeerRun Z10 Treadmill Video Review

We Know What Makes a Good Treadmill at Every Price Point

Over the years, we’ve refined our testing process to highlight the treadmill stats that appeal to you. We test the noise production, accuracy, and dimensions of a treadmill. I’ve tested the DeerRun Z10 Pro personally, training on it and evaluating it.

I’ve tested treadmills that cost thousands of dollars and those that are only a couple of hundred dollars. The DeerRun Z10 Pro is an affordable treadmill, but it has some features that will make it competitive even with treadmills that cost even more. I would know, having tested dozens of treadmills at every price point.

Dimensions/Storability

Everyone wants a smaller treadmill that doesn’t take up a lot of space, but they also want a treadmill that is spacious enough to train comfortably. In my opinion, the DeerRun Z10 Pro is as small as a running treadmill can be before it loses its functionality entirely. Thus, this cleverly designed 2-in-1 is perfect for small spaces.

DeerRun Z10 Pro - Hero Treadmill

The Deerrun Z10 Pro is the smallest incline running treadmill I’ve tested.

Measuring 52” long by 27” wide and 47” long, the DeerRun Z10 Pro can fit almost anywhere. The deck height at its peak incline is only 6.5” tall, so you only need a room that’s a foot taller than you or even less to train comfortably on this machine. 6-foot runners will be just fine in rooms with a 7-foot ceiling.

DeerRun Z10 Pro - Deck Profile

The step-up height is extremely low, ensuring that the treadmill does not take up more space than necessary.

As a 2-in-1, the DeerRun Z10 Pro folds down, of course. When folded, it is 5.63” tall (as stated by DeerRun). It will easily fit under a bed or other furniture. You can also stand it upright to lean against a wall.

DeerRun Z10 Pro - Folding Knob

The folding mechanism locks and unlocks with a knob on either side of the deck, and these are nice and easy to use.

The DeerRun Z10 Pro has transport wheels. It weighs only 73 lbs, so it’s easy to lift and roll. I had no trouble maneuvering it around on my own, and during the unboxing, I was able to get it out of the box without help.

DeerRun Z10 Pro - Rolling

There are two wheels on this treadmill, allowing you to roll it where you need it, but I suggest holding it by the deck instead of by the console handle.

Onboard Workouts & Apps

The DeerRun Z10 Pro is locked when you first receive it. To use your treadmill, you will need to download the PitPat app and pair it to your treadmill. (You may also be able to Google alternative methods to unlock it.) The PitPat app is free to download, and it doesn’t take long to set up an account and unlock your treadmill.

DeerRun Z10 Pro - PitPat App Workout

PitPat pairs with your treadmill via Bluetooth and unlocks its functionality.

Without PitPat, the treadmill only allows for manual training. You can manually control the speed and incline of the treadmill.

When you use the PitPat app, you get access to workouts, events, and challenges. PitPat encourages its members to pay to enter events for the chance to win money. You don’t have to use PitPat this way. You can also just use it to store your workout history and track your progress over time.

DeerRun Z10 Pro - PitPat challenges

Compete in virtual worlds with PitPat against other PitPat members.

Console

The DeerRun Z10 Pro has dual LED consoles. The first is on the motorhood, visible when you have the console folded down for walking at a desk. You can see your time, distance, calories, speed, incline level, and total steps.

DeerRun Z10 Pro - Motor Hood

The lower display turns on and off depending on the console positioning.

When you have the treadmill set to running mode, the upper console displays the same metrics. It also has quick-adjust buttons to help you change your speed or incline quickly. There are also buttons for starting and stopping the treadmill. You can also increase the speed by .1 mph or the incline by one level.

DeerRun Z10 Pro - Console

The upright console displays all of your metrics when you are jogging or running and provides quick-adjust buttons.

You can also make adjustments to the Z10 Pro, in either mode, with the included remote. It has a start/stop button as well as buttons for increasing/decreasing the speed and incline. The remote strap allows you to loop the remote around your wrist. It’s also small enough to easily fit within a pocket.

DeerRun Z10 Pro - Remote

I like to use the remote control when the Z10 Pro is set in walking mode, but it works in running mode, too.

There is also a removable tablet rack to hold your phone or a large device. I haven’t used a tablet rack like this one before, which has a bunch of little suction cups to keep your device secure. My phone stuck right to it.

DeerRun Z10 Pro - Tablet Holder

Suction cups on the tablet rack make it look a little weird, but the design works very well for keeping your device in place.

The console is Bluetooth so that you can train with PitPat. However, the Bluetooth connectivity does not let you connect to other apps or a heart rate monitor.

While I like the features the DeerRun Z10 Pro has for such a small treadmill, it lacks a few standard treadmill features. It does not have cup holders or a fan. As this treadmill is best for shorter bouts of training, I think that makes sense and keeps the treadmill compact.

Build Quality

DeerRun has treadmills under $500 that continually wow us. The DeerRun Z10 Pro is one of the best 2-in-1 treadmills I’ve ever tested, and the price is barely any higher than the others I’ve tested that don’t match its quality.

Frame

One of the biggest differences between the DeerRun Z10 Pro and other 2-in-1 treadmills is the incline frame under the deck. It feels sturdy and adjusts smoothly. The frame also has a high weight capacity for such a small treadmill—300 lbs.

DeerRun Z10 Pro - Running

For such a small treadmill, the Z10 Pro is impressively sturdy.

That said, the uprights and footrails aren’t entirely functional. Do not put your weight on the treadmill handles. They are not substantial enough to support even smaller runners. At best, they provide guidance for the width and length of the treadmill so that you don’t move too far over or forward on the small belt.

DeerRun Z10 Pro - Treadmill Arm Adjustment

The handles fold under the console for compact storage—just pull the key ring to adjust their positioning.

I measured the footrails, and they are only 2” wide. I wear a women’s size 8, and I cannot comfortably stand on them. Fortunately, the deck is close to the floor, so I recommend stepping from the floor directly to the belt and vice versa.

DeerRun Z10 Pro - Deck

The narrow footrails are not wide enough to stand on.

Motor

The DeerRun Z10 Pro has a 3.5 HP motor. It allows the treadmill to adjust from 0.6 to 7.5 mph when it is set to running mode (console up). In walking mode, the treadmill only goes up to 3.8 mph, which is more than enough for walking for fitness or training at a standing desk while working.

I timed the motor’s speed adjustments. It took 20.7 seconds to go from 1 mph to 7.5 mph. This adjustment speed isn’t very fast, but I think it is safest for a small treadmill like this. I wouldn’t want the speed to adjust any faster.

The DeerRun Z10 Pro has 12 incline levels. I measured the maximum incline to reach 9%. It took 14 seconds for the treadmill to adjust from level 0 (flat) to level 12. The incline adjustment feels smooth and steady.

DeerRun Z10 Pro Treadmill - Feet Walking Incline

I like the addition of the incline, as it makes training on the Z10 Pro more challenging and adds more variety than most 2-in-1 machines have.

My final test for the motor was to measure the noise production. At 3 mph, the DeerRun Z10 Pro was 53.7 dB, and at 7.5 mph, it was 64.5 dB. When inclining (speed set to 3 mph), the noise output only slightly increased to 54.7 dB.

Overall, I think the DeerRun Z10 Pro has great performance features and would work well in an apartment or condo.

Deck

While the compact size of the DeerRun Z10 Pro Treadmill is one of its best features, it’s also a limitation. A typical fitness treadmill has a 20 to 22” wide deck that is 55 to 60” long. The DeerRun Z10 Pro’s running surface measures just 15.75” x 41.5” long.

DeerRun Z10 Pro - Shoes Running Treadmill

The Z10 Pro’s compact running surface means you have to be aware of your positioning on the belt at all times.

The width of the treadmill worked alright for me, but I’m just 5’4” and wear a women’s size 8. I think taller users with larger feet may have more trouble with the width of the treadmill, particularly if they have a wider step width. As long as I kept a short stride, the length of the treadmill was alright.

Cushioning is pretty minimal on this treadmill. It has some shock absorption and doesn’t feel too firm, but it’s not particularly soft either. Compared to running on the pavement, this treadmill is more cushioned.

The step-up height to the deck is only about 4”, so most exercisers should have no problem getting up and down from the deck.

Warranty

DeerRun offers a 1-year warranty for the Z10 Pro 2-in-1 Treadmill. This warranty covers manufacturing defects, not wear and tear. Compared to other fitness treadmills, this warranty is pretty short, but it’s not unexpected for the Z10 Pro’s price point.

Should You Buy the DeerRun Z10 Pro Treadmill

Runners and walkers searching for an incline treadmill that will truly fit in the smallest of spaces should consider the DeerRun Z10 Pro. Few incline treadmills can be found for under $500, and the DeerRun Z10 Pro is one of them. If you are struggling to find a treadmill that fits your budget and feels well-made, don’t overlook this one. It’s a great value.

Admittedly, this treadmill’s small size may make it difficult for users with a wide or long stride to use it comfortably. I recommend using it with the console upright if you are not using it in conjunction with a standing desk, as the console and retractable arms provide additional guidance for staying centered on the belt.

Overall, the DeerRun Z10 Pro is a solid step in the direction I would like the treadmill market to go. It’s affordable, innovative, and offers incredible value for anyone just starting their exercise journey.

I’m a sucker for a simplistic treadmill that gives you plenty of training options. Tell me there’s no obligatory subscription service attached, and I’m almost sold. The Bowflex T6 Treadmill is an affordable entry into Bowflex’s treadmill lineup, and it proves yet again that Horizon’s influence has only improved the brand.

For those of you who are unaware, Horizon is also a treadmill manufacturer, and its parent company bought Bowflex. Their influence on Bowflex’s newest machines is very recognizable to me, as someone who has tested both brands extensively. I think it’s for the best, but if you are looking for high-tech touchscreens, you might not agree.

Keep reading to discover what I love about this treadmill and what might give you pause, depending on your treadmill wants and needs.

It’s my firm belief that there should be decent running treadmills available for around $1k. Unfortunately, we’ve seen prices creep up and up over the last few years. However, the Bowflex T6 is often on sale at $1k. At the time of writing this review, it’s $999, which I think is the perfect price for the quality of this treadmill.

The Bowflex T6 sacrifices a few things, like soft cushioning and a touchscreen, but I think the tradeoff is worth it for many walkers and runners. I should also clarify that while the deck isn’t as luxuriously soft as a NordicTrack treadmill, it’s still softer than running outside. You’ll have to keep reading for the rest of the details on my experience with the T6—running deck and all.

We Test the Treadmills and the Treadmills Test Us

Every treadmill that we receive in our studio goes through the same testing procedure. Of course, we have to account for the differences in fitness treadmills, walking pads, and manual treadmills. I also walk and run on every treadmill while testing all the different training options to give you the most well-rounded information possible.

Dimensions/Storability

The Bowflex T6 Treadmill is a folding treadmill, which makes finding a place for it a lot easier. It has transport wheels so you can roll it around if you need to, though I always recommend finding a treadmill a permanent location if you can.

Bowflex T6 - Folding Treadmill Deck

I really appreciate the grab bar under the deck, because it makes folding the treadmill easier.

Measuring 76” L x 35” W x 71” H, the T6 isn’t remarkably large or compact for a home treadmill. When folded, it’s only 44” long. Then, the step-up height of the deck at the maximum incline is 15.5”. That means a 6-foot-tall runner needs a ceiling height of 7.5’ to 8’ to train at the 15% incline with plenty of room left for any vertical movement. I take the top deck height plus 6” and add that to the tallest user’s height to calculate the necessary ceiling height.

Folding the treadmill isn’t too difficult. The deck is pretty sturdy, so it’s a little on the heavier side. I think most people should be able to do it with two hands without issue. The deck also has a gas shock arm that allows the deck to lower softly on its own. This feature also helps with folding, as it prevents the device from slamming to the ground if dropped.

Bowflex T6 - Kick Release

Soft lowering systems make it easier to fold and unfold a treadmill.

Onboard Workouts & Apps

This treadmill has onboard apps that you don’t have to pay for! You don’t have to connect the treadmill to Wi-Fi. You don’t have to subscribe to a training service. The buttons for the programs are clearly labeled, allowing you to set up your workout and start training within a couple of minutes.

The onboard workouts include manual (time goal), muscle toner, calorie goal, distance, rolling hills, intervals, strength builder, and target heart rate. The speed does not automatically adjust in these programs, but the incline does. You keep manual control of the speed.

Bowflex T6 - Start and Stop

If you don’t want to set up a workout, no problem! Pressing the start button will get you right into a manual workout without any other steps.

Apps

The app that works best with the T6 is Bowflex’s own JRNY app. After a 2-month free trial, you can train with JRNY in the app for $12/month. This app includes trainer-led workouts and structured scenic workouts.

JRNY syncs with the treadmill to track your metrics. Speed and incline adjustments are manual still, but there’s a burn meter on the screen. This feature provides a target for you to hit based on your incline and speed. Since you can use either incline or speed to reach your burn target, you can essentially make any treadmill a walking or running workout suitable for your fitness level.

Bowflex T6 - JRNY

When you first sign up for JRNY, you go through a fitness assessment, which helps the app scale to your abilities. The burn rate tailors to you!

Other apps that you can use include Peloton and Zwift. The T6 sends your speed and incline data to these apps so you can participate in the workouts and classes.

Console

The Bowflex T6 has a simple console—not a touchscreen. To access the apps I previously described, you’ll need a phone or tablet. On the console, there’s an LCD screen at the top and four LED windows on the bottom half. The LCD screen feels a little small, but I didn’t mind it since I can get all the information from the windows at a glance.

Quick-adjust buttons line the sides of the console so you can easily jump from one level to the other. I don’t mind that these numbers skip over a few levels because there are also incline and speed roller dials. I’m apt to use the dials of the buttons, as they are easy to reach and fun to use (in my opinion).

Bowflex T6 - Interval Key Button

Underneath the dials, there’s a programmable interval key, which can be set to remember a speed and incline for manual interval workouts.

In addition to the speed and incline controls, there are also console buttons for starting and stopping the treadmill. A dial between the start and stop allows you to set the level for a program and select your choice. During a workout, this central dial also functions as a volume control.

Bowflex T6 - Console Screen

There are also buttons for the fan and Bluetooth functionality.

The fan features multiple speeds and an adjustable angle. I found it effective at cooling me off while I was exercising. The fan also wasn’t too loud, I thought.

Bluetooth allows the treadmill console to pair with the third-party apps I mentioned. You can also switch the Bluetooth mode to pair with a heart rate monitor. You can’t pair an app and a heart rate monitor at the same time, but generally, you can pair a heart rate monitor to the app itself. The T6 comes with a heart rate monitor chest strap.

You can also connect your phone to the speakers on the T6 via Bluetooth.

Bowflex T6 - Speaker

They are loud enough and clear enough to hear while you are training.

For storage, there are two tablet racks at the top of the console. One of them can be removed if you would like. There’s also a little area at the bottom of the console where you could place a phone or other small item. Finally, there are two cup holders.

Build Quality

For its price, the T6 definitely wows in terms of build quality. I’d put it on par with treadmills that cost twice as much for durability, if no aesthetic appeal. I don’t mean that it’s an ugly treadmill, just that it’s not particularly sleek. However, the stripe down the middle of the belt is a nice touch.

I helped assemble this treadmill, and it would be best for two people to do it together. There are a few steps that are difficult to do on your own. It can be done, as I did it with the Bowflex T9, but an extra set of hands will save you time and frustration. It took about 2 hours to complete. Most treadmills take between 1 to 3 hours in my experience (even if they say only 45 minutes on the manual).

Frame

The T6 has a steel frame that can support up to 325 lbs, which is a decent weight capacity. It has two leveling feet, which I recommend adjusting to reduce any shaking that you may experience while training. With the feet properly set, the incline is more accurate and the experience is more enjoyable.

The footrails are wide enough to stand on comfortably. They are also textured to make it easier to keep your footing. The treadmill handles are substantial enough, too.

Motor

While Bowflex doesn’t outright state the motor rating of the T6, I am more than happy to open up a treadmill motor hood. The T6 has a 3.0 HP motor, which is great for walking and running. It may not be the best for heavy use compared to more powerful treadmills, but it’s hard to nail down exactly what a treadmill’s limits are.

Bowflex T6 - Treadmill Walking

I like the Bowflex T6 for training at all speeds.

The T6 is great for a single dedicated user, but if you share your treadmill with others, run really high mileage exclusively indoors, or walk for 3+ hours at a time at a slow speed, the Bowflex T9 might be the better option. It’s important to avoid the hassle of replacing a motor if you can, even though the T6 has a lifetime motor warranty.

I tested the drive motor and incline motor for responsiveness. It took 22 seconds for the treadmill to accelerate from 1 mph to 12 mph. The incline adjustment from 0 to 15% took 15.9 seconds. The speed change is good, as the range we’ve recorded is 14 to 41 seconds. The incline is very fast compared to a range of 14 to 47 seconds.

As for noise, the T6 is 52.3 dB at 3 mph and 67 dB at 12 mph. This noise output isn’t particularly quiet, and I would call it average based on the data I have. The incline adjustment with the belt running at 3 mph raises the noise output to 53.5 dB, which is on the quieter side. There are some very loud incline motors out there, but this isn’t one of them!

My final test was for the incline’s accuracy. The stated range is 0 to 15%. I measured the incline range to be 1% to 14.4%. Consider that factors such as the height of the stability feet and the evenness of the floor can skew the results. There’s also room for instrument error. I consider any treadmill with an incline measurement within 1% of the stated measurement to be accurate.

Bowflex T6 - Walking Incline Feet

The Bowflex T6 has a great incline range that surpasses the industry standard, especially considering its price point.

Deck

Measuring 20” wide by 60” long, the Bowflex T6’s running surface has plenty of room for training. I definitely feel like I have enough space to train.

Bowflex T6 - Deck

The red line down the center of the deck creates a sporty and fun feel that also helps you stay centered on the belt.

I measured the step-up height to be about 9” when the deck is flat, which is an okay height. It shouldn’t be too difficult for most people to step up onto, especially since you can use the treadmill handles for support if necessary.

Runners seeking a sturdy and moderately cushioned running deck will be pleased with this treadmill. It’s not the most cushioned, but it’s not overly firm either. I think this type of cushioning has a wider appeal.

There are a couple of drawbacks to the deck. At a 15% incline, the belt slips. It didn’t happen to me, but a reviewer on our team who weighs more than I do experienced it while walking and running. The deck also bounces up and down when you are running on the incline. Some runners may appreciate the extra shock absorption, but others may need some time to get used to this feeling.

Warranty

A big plus for this treadmill is the warranty. It has a lifetime warranty on the frame and motor. The mechanical parts are covered for three years, and the labor is covered for one year.

The average coverage for a treadmill in this price point is 10 years for the frame, 2 years for parts, and 1 year for labor. The Bowflex T6 surpasses that!

Should You Buy the Bowflex T6 Treadmill

The Bowflex T6 Treadmill is an excellent treadmill for its price. I love the design of this treadmill, as the console was very stable even during running. You can reach the console easily, and the incline and speed dials are helpful for making quick adjustments without interrupting your workout.

With both onboard classes and Bluetooth connectivity, the T6 offers tons of training options. The onboard programs are easy to set up and have several levels to challenge athletes of all abilities. You can also connect the treadmill to JRNY, Peloton, and Zwift, for example.

At an affordable price and with a nice folding frame, the Bowflex T6 will appeal to many walkers and runners. It has the incline and speed capabilities to get you through all sorts of workouts, too.

Bowflex T6 Treadmill Q&A / FAQ

How long do Bowflex treadmills last?

Most Bowflex treadmills now have a lifetime frame and motor warranty, which is a good sign of their longevity. Typically, we expect treadmills, like those from Bowflex, to last about 10 years. However, many factors can reduce or prolong the lifespan of a treadmill: routine maintenance, usage level, storage location, etc.

Is Bowflex better than NordicTrack?

Bowflex does not require a subscription service, and even its more affordable treadmills have a lifetime frame and motor warranty. These features may appeal to some users more than the high-tech iFIT training platform and cushioned decks NordicTrack offers.

How much does the Bowflex T6 weigh?

The Bowflex T6 Treadmill weighs 233.7 lbs.

What is the best Bowflex treadmill?

The Bowflex T6 is the brand’s most affordable treadmill. It has a lifetime frame and motor warranty. It also has a 15% maximum incline. However, Bowflex also has a new premium treadmill, the Bowflex T16, which has a sturdy frame and a premium 16” touchscreen.

The NordicTrack T Series 16 was not an addition to the brand’s lineup that I expected. The T Series 16 whittles down the dimensions of the NordicTrack 1750 and adds adjustable cushioning. As someone who’s tested almost every NordicTrack treadmill over the past few years (with only a few exceptions), it feels incredibly familiar to me.

When I review a NordicTrack treadmill, there are two things that I pay a lot of attention to. The first, as always, is the build quality, but for a NordicTrack treadmill, I’m careful to evaluate the cushioning. There are few brands (maybe none) in this price point that have as much cushioning as NordicTrack.

I also like to review what features iFIT currently offers. iFIT adds new features and classes all the time, and the iFIT platform is an essential part of the T Series 16 and all other NordicTracks. Keep reading for the full picture.

NordicTrack T Series 16 Treadmill Video Review

We Know Treadmills Like Nobody Else

After years of testing NordicTrack treadmills, I have a pretty good idea of what to expect. That means what makes a treadmill different from the others in NordicTrack’s current and past lineups stands out. The T Series 16 Treadmill is one I was excited to test.

I also test a variety of other brands—pretty much every top treadmill brand designed for home use. Our testing procedures have been designed and refined over the years to get at what makes each treadmill great and what limitations you should consider before purchasing.

Editor’s Note, 1/4/2026: This review of the NordicTrack T Series 16 recounts my experience training on the T Series 16 and with iFIT. I will update this review should any new features become available.

Dimensions/Storability

The T Series sets itself apart from NordicTrack’s Commercial Series with its smaller footprint, in addition to a few other features. I like to think of the T Series 16 as the more compact version of the very popular NordicTrack 1750. The T Series 16 measures 75.1” L x 34.3” W x 58.4” H, but folded, it measures just 41” long.

NordicTrack T Series 16 - Folding Up Deck

You can easily fold and unfold the NordicTrack T Series 16 Treadmill before and after each workout.

Compared to the NordicTrack’s Commercial Series and other home treadmills, the T Series 16 is quite easy to fold. It’s not too heavy and feels like lifting about 20 lbs. The deck has a hydraulic arm beneath it, which allows the deck to unfold and drop to the floor on its own once it’s unlocked from its folded position.

The step-up height to the deck is 8.3”, and when inclined, the deck reaches a maximum height of 14”. We recommend a ceiling height of 7.5’ for 6’ runners. That gives you a few extra inches of space to accommodate any vertical movement when walking or running.

Though the step-up height to the deck is relatively low, you still have to consider the incline feature when deciding if your ceiling height is enough for this treadmill.

At 250 lbs (as it comes shipped), the NordicTrack T Series 16 is not too heavy to move around. You just have to tilt it onto its two transport wheels and move it wherever you need it to go. You wouldn’t have the best time moving it upstairs, and you would definitely need help doing so, but rolling it a short way within a room shouldn’t be too hard.

NordicTrack T Series 16 - Profile

To minimize the amount you have to roll the T Series 16 around, I recommend assembling it wherever you plan to keep it.

Onboard Workouts & Apps

NordicTrack is very clear on the product page for the NordicTrack T Series 16 that an iFIT account is non-negotiable for using this treadmill. There are no onboard programs without a free account, and I wavered back and forth on whether to state that the T Series 16 has one onboard program or none.

The truth is a little more complicated. Last time I checked (which is often), the T Series 16 has allowed you to train in manual mode and in a featured iFIT class without a paid account. You can also take a few structured workouts that automatically adjust the speed and incline from the manual training screen.

NordicTrack T Series 16 - Manual Workout

Manual mode shows you all the training metrics that you need to see.

You need to log in and be connected to Wi-Fi to train on the NordicTrack T Series 16. Because of the restricted features, limited content, and requirements for non-subscribers, I only recommend this treadmill if you want to subscribe to iFIT.

NordicTrack T Series 16 - Apps

Note: Netflix and the other entertainment apps are not available for non-subscribers, even with a free account.

iFIT

For $39/month, you get an iFIT membership with access to all iFIT content and multiple profiles. Friends and family are welcome to join for a total of five users. Since iFIT tailors your workout recommendations and class difficulty to you, it’s important to have your own profile.

NordicTrack T Series 16 - iFIT Class Options

iFIT has almost too many classes to choose from, as they add new training series and workouts all the time.

Workouts are filmed on location all over the world. A trainer guides each class, though iFIT has recently released some classes that are just scenic. The class explores a trail or route, while the treadmill incline adjusts to match the incline grade of the real-world location as closely as it can. The speed adjusts according to the iFIT trainer’s cues and will also scale to your training abilities.

NordicTrack T Series 16 - Beautiful Outdoor Class

Explore some of the most picturesque locations with iFIT on the T Series 16’s screen.

There are a few different ways that you can have the speed (and incline to a lesser extent) adjust. By turning Smart Adjust off, you can train with the preset incline and speed levels. When Smart Adjust is on, the speed will adjust based on your feedback, tailoring the current and future classes accordingly. ActivePulse adjusts the treadmill settings to keep you in the target heart rate zone.

NordicTrack T Series 16 - Workout Menu

Use the menu on the right side to set up the features you would like to use during your workout.

You aren’t relegated to only iFIT’s trainer-led classes. In addition to the few scenic-only classes that have been added, there are also customizable workout options.

NordicTrack T Series 16 - Google Map Route

With Google Maps, you can create a route anywhere, and the incline will adjust to match the real-world terrain.

In the Google Maps integration, you can view the route with Street View or an overview (map or satellite). The icon or images will progress according to your speed, as if you were really running the route. It’s a fun way to rehearse race courses.

NordicTrack T Series 16 - Templates

There are also preset workouts to choose from.

If you have a training plan you are following and want to replicate that workout on your treadmill, you can design an interval or target workout.

In a custom workout, you see a basic training screen with all your metrics, and the treadmill automatically adjusts to the setting you selected.

Ergatta Races is a training app integrated with iFIT that you have to download. This app allows you to compete against other iFIT members, racing along the course of your choosing. You can choose what competition you want to compete against, and I recommend the autofill option, as it pits you against other users with a similar fitness level.

NordicTrack T Series 16 - Ergatta Races

Feed your competitive side with Ergatta Races.

There are also plenty of entertainment apps: Netflix, Prime Video, Spotify, Audible, iHeartRadio, and Amazon Music. You can use these apps while you are training with any of the other workout options, including iFIT classes. You still get the automatic speed and incline adjustments. I like using the entertainment apps to make manual or custom workouts a little more interesting.

iFIT also has an AI feature that you can opt into if you would like. It requires you to communicate with the AI Coach (Tailor) through text message. You can tell Tailor your training goals and what kind of workout you would like to do. Then, Tailor can recommend and schedule classes for you. The class will show up in your iFIT calendar and on your iFIT homepage.

The iFIT AI coach will text you regularly with training advice and reminders, but it’s not as refined as I would like—a common AI limitation.

iFIT is an excellent training platform, and you really need it for the complete experience on the NordicTrack T Series 16. You should carefully consider whether a subscription-based training platform is right for you before purchasing this treadmill.

Console

The 16” touchscreen on the NordicTrack T Series 16 gives it its name and makes it the more premium option within the T Series lineup. While I prefer a 20”+ touchscreen, this display is large enough to enjoy iFIT and navigate all the content easily.

NordicTrack T Series 16 - Console Adjustment

For improved viewing, the touchscreen tilts up and down, which is helpful since its position may feel a little low for taller walkers and runners.

There are very few physical buttons. Most of the controls are on the touchscreen. The buttons below the console include start and stop, as well as controls for increasing or decreasing the speed, incline, volume, and fan strength.

NordicTrack T Series 16 - Dashboard

The console buttons are located below the screen, just above the stability bar.

You can’t have a quality touchscreen display with video workouts and entertainment apps without a set of nice speakers. The NordicTrack T Series 16 has a speaker bar below the console, which includes two 2” speakers that are great quality and have an excellent sound range.

NordicTrack T Series 16 - Speakers

Since the speakers are front-facing with a good volume range, I can hear everything while I’m training.

For those of you worried about disturbing others, you can also connect Bluetooth headphones to the T Series 16 to listen quietly. It’s super easy to do whenever you want, right from the bottom right menu.

Bluetooth also allows you to pair heart rate monitors. Now, iFIT is also compatible with Apple Watches, which is a feature that I know the Treadmill Review Guru audience has been wanting to see. Alas, I do not have an Apple Watch, only a lowly Garmin, so I cannot test this for myself.

There is also a fan on the T Series 16. I like the angle and strength of this fan. It is effective at cooling me off while I’m training, so I think it will work for most of you, too. Because this is an iFIT treadmill, you know it can’t just be a simple fan. No! It’s a fan with an auto-adjust feature that makes the fan stronger when you train harder or weaker when you slow down. (You can also manually control it.)

As for storage, there are two cup holders on the T Series 16. These are large enough to hold a typical disposable water bottle or a similarly sized reusable one. There’s no tablet rack, which underscores the importance of having an iFIT subscription for this treadmill.

NordicTrack T Series 16 - Bottle Holder

You could set your phone in one of the cup holders if you wanted

Build Quality

NordicTrack is very consistent in its build quality, which I appreciate. The T Series 16 is from their more affordable line, so while there are a few concessions made compared to their more expensive machines, you still get a really nice treadmill.

Frame

The T Series 16 follows the z-shaped frame design that I’ve come to expect from NordicTrack’s folding treadmills. There’s nothing I would change about this design. The handles and footrails are substantial enough for you to use to support yourself.

Regarding the base frame beneath the deck, it’s steel, as are the uprights. It feels sturdy, and though there is some console shake while running, it does not impede your training experience. The weight capacity is 325 lbs, which beats the industry standard, even if it’s not as impressive as some of NordicTrack’s other treadmills.

The only change I would make to the frame is the addition of adjustable feet to accommodate uneven floors.

Motor

The NordicTrack T Series 16 has a 3.6 HP motor. It is suitable for walking, running, and everything in between. The maximum speed is 12 mph, and the incline range is 0 to 12%. A lot of iFIT classes incorporate downhill segments, so that is one feature you miss out on with this treadmill. Your treadmill will just be at a flat grade for the downhill portions.

NordicTrack T Series 16 - Treadmill Runner

Go for a run or a walk on the NordicTrack T Series 16 Treadmill.

My measurements of the incline on the T Series 16 proved that the stated incline range is very accurate. The maximum incline of 12% is spot on, but the deck is slightly inclined when set to 0 (<1%). While the NordicTrack T Series 16 Treadmill is a bit louder than NordicTrack’s Commercial Series treadmill, the noise level should be appropriate for most homes. Despite its more compact design, I don’t think this heavy treadmill is ideal for upstairs apartments or condos. The motor’s speed adjustments are pretty typical for a home treadmill—neither overly fast nor slow. The T Series 16 would be great for all types of workouts, whether you are training in steady state or HIIT. However, the incline adjustments are rather slow, so it may be more difficult to do short hill intervals.

Deck

Keeping with its compact design, the NordicTrack T Series 16 Treadmill has a slightly slimmer deck. The running surface is 20” instead of 22”, like the treadmills in NordicTrack’s higher-end lineups. This design keeps the overall width of the treadmill lower, too. Yet, I still had plenty of room to train on the NordicTrack T Series 16 without feeling crowded.

NordicTrack T Series 16 - Rear Deck

The 20” x 60” running surface provides plenty of space to run and walk.

We have to talk about the adjustable cushioning. It’s a unique feature that I haven’t seen on other brands at this price point. However, like the T Series 10, I felt that the difference between the two cushioning settings was pretty minimal.

As a biomechanist, I know that my perception of the cushioning may not reflect the actual cushioning differences, but walkers and runners should not expect a drastic difference.

NordicTrack T Series 16 - Adjusting Shocks

To adjust the cushioning, simply rotate each shock absorber to its on or off position to set your desired cushion level.

The step-up height to the deck is 8.3”, so it’s easy to get up and down from the deck. I always appreciate a low-profile treadmill that doesn’t sacrifice cushioning.

Warranty

NordicTrack highlights that the motor is covered by a 2-year warranty. This warranty is better than many brands and models, which only have a 1-year warranty, but we prefer to see 5 years or longer on a motor.

The rest of the warranty offering follows NordicTrack’s typical warranty. The frame is covered for 10 years. Parts are covered for 2 years. Finally, the tablet and labor are covered for only 1 year.

Should You Buy the NordicTrack T Series 16

For runners and walkers who want guided training and a full suite of training and entertainment features, it’s hard to beat NordicTrack. The T Series 16 is the perfect way to enjoy iFIT on a folding treadmill with a more compact footprint. It has a 16” HD touchscreen for an enjoyable viewing experience.

I do not recommend the NordicTrack T Series 16 for exercisers who do not want a monthly (or yearly) subscription, as iFIT is essential for the NordicTrack T Series 16. iFIT has outdoor workouts filmed all over the world that are appropriate for any fitness level. If you want a break, you can also watch Netflix, Prime Video, and more on the screen.

With its 3.6 HP motor and adjustable cushioning, the T Series 16 is appropriate for just about any workout you want to do. It has a top speed of 12 mph and an incline range from 0 to 12%. Check this one out if that sounds like the kind of training you want to do.

NordicTrack T Series 16 Q&A / FAQ

Which NordicTrack T Series is the best?

The NordicTrack T Series 16 Treadmill has a more powerful motor and larger touchscreen than the NordicTrack T Series 10; however, it is more expensive. Runners and walkers restricted by a budget will be just fine with the T Series 10, but the T Series 16 is a nice upgrade for those who can afford it.

Can you run on the NordicTrack T Series 16?

Yes, you can run on the NordicTrack T Series 16 Treadmill. It has a powerful 3.6 HP motor with a top speed of 12 mph. The deck is 20” x 60”, ensuring you have plenty of space to train.

What is the lifespan of a NordicTrack treadmill?

While many different factors go into determining a treadmill’s longevity, we have seen NordicTrack treadmills last ten years and longer. However, NordicTracks may not last as long when stored in a garage or other non-climate-controlled environment. They also need regular maintenance and cleaning to last as long as possible.

Sometimes exercisers do not have the right expectations for what it takes to maintain a treadmill. Treadmill motors and frames can outlast their belts and decks. You may need to replace parts like these during your treadmill’s lifespan.

Our studio is pretty much overflowing with treadmills, which means a treadmill like the Ultra 3 would be difficult to find a space for. It’s not a treadmill you tuck away and forget easily. Since it doesn’t fold and has a bold design, it needs a dedicated space, and I think most walkers and runners who are interested in it probably have a home gym to store it.

The Ultra 3 is a great way to make a bold statement in your home gym and demonstrate your dedication to your walking and running routine. Better yet, your indulgence will pay off with all the premium features this treadmill has in store for you.

Though the treadmill is visually appealing and very enticing, I suggest reading the rest of this review before you make your decision. Check out my full coverage of the Ultra 3 and its training service (iFIT) below.

If you are considering the Ultra 3, I must introduce you to iFIT. It’s a subscription-based training platform that unlocks this treadmill’s full potential. iFIT has thousands of trainer-led classes that explore beautiful locations all over the world. Using Our Years of Expertise to Analyze Top Treadmills on the Market

One of the most difficult parts about reviewing treadmills is not being able to test all of them. We test as many as we can, but we only have so much space. When it comes to writing a review for a treadmill like the Ultra 3, which we don’t have yet, I put all my accumulated knowledge of NordicTrack and iFIT to the test.

Normally, we spend many miles running and walking on a treadmill before writing a review. I like to measure everything that can be measured, including the noise output, the motor responsiveness, and the incline accuracy. I hope I can run the Ultra 3 through all these tests soon, just like I’ve done with (almost) every other NordicTrack machine.

Editor’s Note, 9/30/2025: We don’t have the Ultra 3 Treadmill yet, but our expert gives her opinion on it based on years of NordicTrack experience. We will update this review when we have tested the Ultra 3 fully.

Dimensions/Storability

I hope you aren’t planning to move the Ultra 3 around a lot because it’s not really designed for it. This is a very heavy, non-folding treadmill. It needs a dedicated, ideally permanent, place to live. At 84″ long x 41.25” W x 65.25” H and 709 lbs (as shipped), this treadmill is best for walkers and runners who have a home gym.

To calculate the ceiling height needed for this treadmill, I look at the step-up height and incline range of the treadmill. The Ultra 3 has a 9.5” step-up height to the deck. The incline range reaches a maximum of 15%, meaning at its highest point, the deck is 18” high or less. I like to add another 6” to ensure runners have room for any vertical movement and comfort.

Thus, the NordicTrack Ultra 3 Treadmill needs a ceiling height 24” or 2’ taller than the tallest user planning to use the treadmill. So, if you are 6’ tall, you need an 8’ ceiling. When I get the Ultra 3 in for testing, I’ll take a measurement of the deck height when inclined to get a more accurate number. Typically, my estimates overshoot the required ceiling height—better safe than sorry.

Onboard Workouts & Apps

The onboard offerings for the Ultra 3 are limited. You need a free iFIT account and Wi-Fi to access most of the training content. This free account gets you access to the manual training mode, a few structured workouts, and a featured iFIT class. However, what iFIT offers for free could change, and we’ve seen it change over the past couple of years a lot.

While a membership to iFIT isn’t mandatory, I strongly recommend it with this treadmill. The two work together to create the high-end experience. iFIT offers thousands of workouts, led by over a hundred different coaches. There are workouts for every fitness level, ensuring everyone can find classes suitable for their training and preferences.

iFIT classes explore real-world trails and routes. When your iFIT coach runs uphill, your treadmill incline will adjust, allowing you to join them on every climb. The speed will also adjust based on the class’s structure. Over time, iFIT learns your fitness capacity, tailoring the speed to you.

If you want a personalized workout even faster, pair a Bluetooth heart rate monitor. The treadmill speed will adjust to keep you in the appropriate heart rate zone for that segment of class. It’s my favorite way to train because it ensures the classes are not too hard or too easy for my current fitness level.

For ongoing training, iFIT provides two types of guidance. Many of the classes are organized into series so that you can join one, and the next time you hop onto the treadmill, it will recommend the next class in the series. You can also opt into the AI Coach, which will chat with you via text, learn your training goals, and schedule classes to help you reach that goal.

iFIT classes aren’t the only option on the Ultra 3. There are also apps you can use to switch up your training.

The Google Maps integration lets you draw a route anywhere in the world. The treadmill’s incline automatically adjusts to replicate the real-world terrain, while the screen shows you a Street View of the route. You can also switch the view to an overview of the route (map or satellite).

Ergatta Races is another training app you can download on the Ultra 3 (through iFIT). In this app, you race against other iFIT members’ past performances. There are several different routes to choose from, and some are geared towards walking instead of running. A leaderboard shows in the top left corner to keep the vibe competitive but fun.

In addition to training apps, iFIT also offers entertainment. Netflix, Prime Video, Spotify, Amazon Music, Audible, Pluto TV, and iHeartRadio are all available on iFIT with an active membership, but you will need your own login (and maybe subscription) to each of these services. You can train with iFIT while watching a TV show or movie. The treadmill speed and incline will automatically adjust.

Console

The screen is 24”, creating a wide and clear window into iFIT’s outdoor classes. The screen tilts and pivots side to side for on- and off-treadmill viewing. I’m really impressed with the screen quality NordicTrack has been able to deliver in their latest treadmills and other cardio equipment.

NordicTrack 2450 iFIT App Widgets

Here’s a look at iFIT with all the metrics and widgets overlaying the class view from the NordicTrack 2450’s 24” touchscreen.

Breaking from the normal layout of a NordicTack console, the speakers and fans are located inside the uprights. This change keeps the console looking sleek and modern. There are four speakers for a more immersive audio experience.

I expect the fans to be more powerful and to cover more area than the typical NordicTrack fan. The fans have an automatic feature that allows them to adjust their speed to your training intensity. Instead of having to change the fan speed manually (though you can), the fan speeds up as the workout intensifies.

The NordicTrack Ultra 3 Treadmill uses Bluetooth technology to let you pair headphones or a heart rate monitor to the console. With Bluetooth audio, you can adjust the trainer and entertainment volume just like you can with the speakers. As for the heart rate monitor, most monitors pair. Apple Watches are supposed to connect to iFIT, too, but I have not verified this.

For storage, the NordicTrack Ultra 3 has a wireless charger that can hold your phone. There’s a small storage compartment and a cup holder. I like the minimalist but functional approach to treadmill storage.

Build Quality

The NordicTrack Ultra 3 Treadmill is a high-end treadmill, and I think most shoppers will be impressed by its build quality above all else. However, I was surprised that the Ultra 3 does not have a commercial-grade build like the Ultra 1. While there is a mixture of residential and commercial-grade equipment at this price, I’m a bit surprised that the Ultra 3 does not meet commercial standards.

If you are looking for a treadmill for your home, a commercial-grade build may not be as important to you, especially since the Ultra 3 is about half the price of the Ultra 1.

Frame

We’ve seen Z-shaped frames; now, NordicTrack wants us to meet the V-shaped frame. The Ultra 3’s triangular uprights are designed for stability and performance. Of course, it doesn’t hurt that it looks really nice, too.

The wooden panel embedded in the uprights elevates the Ultra 3’s steel and plastic construction. It’s just a hint of wood, but I think it makes a huge difference.

Like the Ultra 1 and NordicTrack’s other treadmills, the Ultra 3 has a 400-lb weight capacity. This weight capacity is great. I’m really happy to see that many treadmills are moving beyond the 300-lb standard of years gone by.

The Ultra 3 has substantial treadmill arms and footrails, ensuring that you feel supported and stable while using it.

Motor

We typically look for a 3.0 HP motor for a running treadmill and a 4.0 HP motor for a treadmill designed for marathon runners or households with multiple dedicated users. The Ultra 3 (and the Ultra 1) surprised me with a 3.0 CHP DC motor.

There is a lifetime warranty on the Ultra 3’s motor, and we think it’s sufficient for heavy use. Treadmill brands share so little information about the quality of their motors and use recommendations. We are moving away from categorizing treadmills by horsepower, but it’s hard to find another way to designate the different treadmill categories.

I haven’t been able to test the NordicTrack Ultra 3 for myself, so I don’t have the inside scoop on the motor’s noise level or responsiveness. I will update this review with all the details once I’ve tested it.

Something I can review is the speed and incline range. With a top speed of 15 mph, the Ultra 3 is one of the fastest residential treadmills on the market. I’m an expert treadmill reviewer, and aside from manual treadmills, I can’t think of a residential treadmill with a faster top speed.

As for the incline range, it spans from -3% to 15%. I’m not as impressed with this range as I am with the NordicTrack X24 -6% to 40% incline range, but it’s still superior to most treadmills you will find on the market. In particular, I love the decline element. iFIT wants you to feel like you are truly on the trail with the iFIT coach, and the ability to go downhill and uphill really helps.

Deck

NordicTrack ranks at the very top for cushioning for me. I haven’t run on the Ultra 3 Treadmill myself, but I expect a soft underfoot experience. I think the deck cushioning is going to appeal a lot to runners and walkers who want to lessen the impact on their joints.

The running surface is 22” wide by 60” long. This size is sufficient, even for reaching the 15 mph top speed. From the looks of it, the Ultra 3 has a long but low-profile motor hood. When I get to test the Ultra 3, one of the first things I’ll investigate is whether you’re likely to hit the motor hood or not.

Warranty

You get a lifetime warranty on the Ultra 3’s motor. Additional details on the warranty are not readily available. Usually, NordicTrack machines have a 10-year frame warranty, 2-year parts warranty, and 1-year labor and tablet warranty. I’m assuming the Ultra 3 has that same warranty, in addition to the lifetime motor warranty. I wish more was covered by a lifetime warranty (frame or deck), but it’s not a bad warranty by any means.

Should You Buy the NordicTrack Ultra 3

The NordicTrack Ultra 3 Treadmill is a high-end treadmill with features that make me excited to run. The soft cushioning and beautiful design are so inviting, and since this is a large, non-folding treadmill, it’s hard to overlook. I was particularly drawn to the wood detail on the treadmill uprights.

As an iFIT-compatible treadmill, you’ll need a membership to iFIT to unlock its training and entertainment features. With iFIT, you get thousands of workout videos that adjust the speed and incline automatically. Over time, iFIT will even learn your fitness level and tailor the classes accordingly. I love that you can pair a heart rate monitor for tailored adjustments right away.

Since the Ultra 3 is an expensive, heavy, non-folding treadmill that requires a lot of space, it’s best suited for dedicated runners. Ideally, you probably have a home gym. It’s an awesome treadmill that might just be worth your investment.

NordicTrack Ultra 3 Treadmill Q&A / FAQ

What is the lifespan of a NordicTrack treadmill?

We expect a NordicTrack treadmill like the Ultra 3 to last 10 years or longer. However, your treadmill will require additional maintenance during this timeframe, such as lubricating the treadmill deck and cleaning it. The lifespan of a treadmill will depend on a variety of factors: use level, maintenance, and storage location.

Do NordicTrack treadmills need maintenance?

Yes, NordicTrack treadmills require maintenance. Most treadmills require regular lubrication beneath the belt on the treadmill deck. You may also need to tighten bolts, wipe down the exposed surfaces, and vacuum out the motor hood. It’s not uncommon to need to replace a worn-out deck or belt if you use your treadmill a lot.

Do you have to have iFIT to use the NordicTrack Ultra 3?

I recommend iFIT for the NordicTrack Ultra 3. While the treadmill is usable without an iFIT membership, its features are very limited. You need a free iFIT account to use the manual mode.

Can you watch Netflix on the NordicTrack Ultra 3 Treadmill?

Yes, you can watch Netflix on the Ultra 3 Treadmill if you have an active iFIT membership. You will also need your own subscription to Netflix. Other apps available on the Ultra 3 include Amazon Prime, Spotify, Amazon Music, Audible, Pluto TV, and iHeartRadio.

As I looked around TRG’s studio, I noticed how much space each running treadmill took up. Most days, I have to budget extra time for testing so I can move treadmills around, which can be a pain. Fortunately, with the TM029, I didn’t have to worry. I could roll this thing all around our studio all day without issues.

Wellfit designed this little treadmill to let you run and walk just about anywhere. You can train with onboard programs and Bluetooth features in your living room, bedroom, and anywhere else. It’s a little hard to carry upstairs by yourself, but if you wanted to take it to an upstairs apartment, just ask a friend for help.

The Wellfit TM029 is a little treadmill with a lot to prove. Keep reading to find the results of my treadmill assessment.

As more and more brands move toward a subscription service, it’s always refreshing to test a treadmill that doesn’t come with a monthly subscription. The Wellfit TM029 has 12 preset programs, and it pairs with third-party apps.

For under $1000, you can have this compact running treadmill that pairs with several training options. The console has all the features you need for any workout you would like to do. The motor can also run for up to two hours, so you can even run long runs on this treadmill. There are a few limitations to be aware of because of its compact size, though.

Wellfit TM029 Treadmill Review - hero

When the TM029 is 63” L x 27.6” W x 50” H.

The step-up height to the deck is about 6”, and when the deck is fully inclined, it is 11”. You will need a 7.5’ ceiling for this treadmill if you are a 6’ runner. That would give you enough space to incline the treadmill and have a little extra buffer for vertical motion created by running.

I can move the TM029 around easily. The wheels roll well, and the treadmill is only 120 lbs. Wellfit says you only need to be able to lift about 33 lbs to lift the TM029, since you are only lifting the back of the deck. I find this to be pretty accurate, though I have not been able to directly measure the force required to lift the deck.

Wellfit TM029 - action moving treadmill

The wheels engage quickly, which is something I really appreciate

Onboard Workouts & Apps

Sometimes, it seems like the more you pay for a treadmill, the less you get. I get endless comments about customers who are frustrated with their fancy touchscreen treadmill that doesn’t have a single built-in training program. Well, the TM029 has twelve preset onboard programs in addition to manual mode.

The screen shows a preview of these programs, so you have an idea before you start them of what you are getting into. You can’t adjust the intensity of the programs, so it takes a little trial and error to figure out which ones are appropriate for your fitness level.

Apps

For additional training, you can pair the Wellfit treadmill with FTMS-compatible training apps. The most compatible app is, of course, the Wellfit app. This app allows you to track your training on the TM029.

The Wellfit app also provides structured treadmill workouts and scenic video classes. There’s even a button that allows you to say what kind of workout you are looking for, and then the app will make recommendations. While this feature is nice to have, I found myself scrolling through the app and browsing workouts manually most of the time.

I don’t have VR glasses to test it, but you should be able to get a 3D VR experience with the outdoor classes.

Wellfit TM029 app

My favorite category on the Wellfit app was the smart runs with their colorful visuals.

I was most excited to pair the TM029 with apps like Zwift and Peloton. It connected easily to both of these apps and showed my speed and distance on my phone screen. I really enjoy training on both of these platforms, so being able to get my metrics from the TM029 is super helpful.

Wellfit TM029 - app console

No subscription service is required to use the TM029. The Wellfit app is free, and the other apps (and their subscriptions) are completely optional.

Console

The Wellfit TM029 doesn’t have a traditional console. It’s a unique but really nice design. The screen part can be adjusted to be more upright or flat. If you want to set a larger object, like a laptop, on the console, you can just fold the screen flat to create a larger shelf.

Wellfit TM029 Treadmill - action walking

You get two removable sticky pads with the TM029 that help keep your devices in place.

I used one of the sticky pads to fix my phone to the console, and I had no problems with it. My phone stayed put in both landscape and portrait modes, even while I was running.

Wellfit TM029 display console

As for the screen, it’s simple but engaging. I like how colorful it is.

You can see all your necessary metrics on the screen, including your speed, incline level, total time, distance, and even your step count. I wish you could see more of these numbers at once, but the treadmill scans through them at a decent pace.

To support the compatible training apps and any entertainment you might want to watch, the TM029 also has Bluetooth speakers. The quality is pretty nice for this price point. It’s not as clear as the speakers on a NordicTrack or Peloton treadmill, but I had no problem hearing the audio while I was training.

For additional storage, there are two cup holders. I store an Allen wrench in one of them, so I always have it on hand to lock and unlock the treadmill’s folding mechanism. Though the console shakes some while you are running, I haven’t had any problems with anything falling out.

Another feature on the TM029 is the heart rate pulse grips. While Bluetooth does not appear to allow you to connect a heart rate monitor, you can check in with these grips on the handles.

Wellfit TM029 grip

Pulse grips aren’t the most accurate for checking your heart rate, but they are a nice feature to have.

Overall, I’m happy with the number of features the TM029 provides. The design feels very thoughtful, and it makes training a breeze.

Build Quality

I put the TM029 together myself. There aren’t too many steps, and I had it assembled without help in about an hour. Honestly, it would have been faster if I had gotten some help taking everything out of the box, but at least my efforts show that doing it by yourself (even if you are a rather small person) is doable.

Frame

The deck is pretty solidly built. It’s the best part of the treadmill, in my opinion. It has a nice steel alloy frame and is reinforced well.

Most of the assembly involves attaching cosmetic parts. These attach with screws instead of bolts. I prefer the bolts that most treadmills use, but the TM029’s plastic components seem pretty secure.

The uprights are steel, but they aren’t too thick. I do not recommend using the treadmill arms to support yourself, as they aren’t that sturdy. They provide guidance and balance for staying centered on the treadmill deck, though.

Wellfit TM029 uprights

Don’t place your full weight on the treadmill uprights and arms; they aren’t designed for it.

The TM029 has a 500-lb weight capacity. We don’t have a way to test this in our studio, unfortunately. Based on our testing, we recommend a weight limit of 265 lbs for running. Lower forces are generated during walking, allowing you to exceed our weight recommendation.

Wellfit TM029 shock

Factors that impact a treadmill’s weight capacity include the frame’s design, the deck thickness, and motor power.

Wellfit TM029 feet

I was also impressed by the leveling feet on the TM029. They are large, providing the deck with a lot of support.

Motor

Another strength of the TM029 is its motor. The motor is rated as a 4.5 HP motor, which is the kind of power we look for in a running treadmill. There’s a lot more to motor quality than just the horsepower rating, but it’s a good starting point.

Wellfit TM029 motor hood

The TM029’s 4.5 HP motor allows you to run for up to two hours.

Wellfit recommends letting the motor rest for at least 10 minutes for every 2 hours of use. Because this is not a commercial machine, I think 2 hours of use per day, especially if you are running, is probably a good limit. However, if you give the motor that rest time, you should be good to go again if desired. Just remember to turn the treadmill off when it’s not in use.

Wellfit TM029 - action running

The TM029’s speed range is 0 to 10 miles per hour.

Incline training on the TM029 is great. It has 10 levels of incline. The treadmill is flat when set to level 0. I measured level 10 to be 10.7% incline. This range is really nice for such a compact treadmill, and I felt stable while using it while walking and running.

As for responsiveness, this motor is on the slower side. It adjusts speed and incline at a steadier pace, which makes the treadmill feel safer and more stable. It’s not as ideal for HIIT workouts, but I think they are still doable.

I measured the noise level at 3 mph and 10 mph. The results were 51 dB and 65.6 dB, respectively. Then, when I inclined the treadmill while it was running at 3 miles per hour, the noise level was 53.5 dB.

Compared to other treadmills we have tested, the TM029 is fairly quiet and produces noise that’s comparable to a dryer.

Deck

We measured the belt and got 19” x 53”, so just keep in mind that the running surface is a little more compact than the average residential or commercial fitness treadmill (20 to 22” wide and 60” long).

Wellfit TM029 - action running deck

Most runners should be able to run up to 6 miles per hour comfortably, but faster speeds may require you to shorten your stride.

I didn’t have any trouble running on the TM029. Most of my runs were at a maximum speed of 7 miles per hour, though. I think many runners might have a harder time hitting the top speed without running out of room.

Wellfit TM029 Treadmill - action walking

The TM029 is more cushioned than running on the road but firm compared to treadmills from Horizon and NordicTrack.

The deck is ¾” of an inch thick. This thickness is pretty typical for a residential treadmill. It’s comparable to what we see in Sole and NordicTrack treadmills, for instance. A thicker deck is more durable, as it increases the load a treadmill can bear and reduces the likelihood of the deck cracking.

As I mentioned before, the deck has a 6” step-up height, so it’s pretty low profile. There are footrails on either side of the deck. These footrails have little plastic extenders that feel very secure, much to my surprise. You can stand on them when needed.

Wellfit TM029 deck

The plastic footrail supports are very sturdy and attach to the deck with screws.

Warranty

Wellfit gives you a 3-year warranty on the frame. This is much shorter than the standard 10-year warranty we encounter on more expensive treadmills, but it’s longer than the 1-year warranty on cheap machines. I would like it if the warranty were a little longer, but it’s not far off what I expect at this price point.

The parts warranty (including the motor) is rather short. Parts are only covered for 180 days, while most treadmills have a 1-year parts warranty.

Should You Buy the Wellfit TM029 Treadmill

The Wellfit TM029 is a lightweight treadmill that supports up to two hours of walking or jogging at a time. It is easy to move around and wouldn’t be a bad choice for a walker or runner who needs a small treadmill for an apartment. It’s more durable than most budget treadmills, too, ensuring you can do a substantial amount of training.

My favorite features on the TM029 are the onboard training programs and Bluetooth connectivity. The Wellfit app is free and connects to the treadmill so you can record your training and follow along with outdoor classes. You can also connect the treadmill to apps like Zwift and Peloton.

The Wellfit TM029 is more compact, so it may not be the best option for advanced runners who need a longer deck and a higher speed limit. Yet, for beginner to intermediate exercisers, it’s a great space-saving option!

Wellfit TM029 Treadmill Q&A / FAQ

What is the Wellfit app?

The Wellfit app is a free treadmill workout app that connects to Wellfit treadmills. You can record your workouts and follow programs. The available categories include free run (a manual training option), smart run for structured workouts, real scenery run (outdoor videos), and custom scheme (user-defined intervals). There are also workout class videos.

The outdoor videos are filmed to look 3D, and you can wear virtual reality glasses for an immersive experience. We’ve never tried it, but Wellfit offers it.

Are Wellfit treadmills good?

Wellfit treadmills are reasonably priced with unique and fun features. The TM029 can support up to 2 hours of training at a time. That’s a lot for such a small treadmill. It can go up to 10 miles per hour and has 10 incline levels.

The Wellfit TM020 has a 3-year warranty on its frame and a 180-day warranty on its other parts.

Is Wellfit a legitimate company?

Yes, Wellfit is a legitimate company. They are very responsive to their customers online. Their products are real, and we tested the TM029 in person before writing this review. We look forward to taking more walks and runs on the TM029.

The Wellfit TM007 is a good walking treadmill, but I must also point out that the height-adjustable version shrinks down small enough that your toddler could train on it. (Note: I’m not endorsing toddlers using treadmills.) It’s a super small folding treadmill, which makes it easy to find a space for.

So many small and affordable treadmills like the TM007 don’t have an automatic incline. This one does, and I tested it out to see how challenging it really was! It’s good to have the right expectations when considering a smaller treadmill. They feel different than commercial, non-folding treadmills, but that doesn’t mean you can’t get a killer workout.

Read the rest of this review to discover what I really enjoyed about the TM007 and what you should be mindful of before purchasing it.

My favorite part about the Wellfit TM007 is the Bluetooth function that lets you connect the treadmill to other training apps. Wellfit Fitness is a free app that has several different categories of treadmill training classes. It’s fun and easy to use. You can also use third-party apps.

The Wellfit treadmill is great for fitness walking and light jogging. It has a shorter deck, so I don’t recommend it for fast running. I wouldn’t train for a marathon on this treadmill but a first 5k would be fine. I like it for walkers who want to increase their daily step count and incorporate incline into their routine.

Wellfit TM007 Treadmill Video Review

We’ve Tested Nearly 200 Treadmills Over the Years

Every treadmill we review goes through a rigorous process. We don’t just test the treadmills by walking and running on them. I mean, we do that, but we also do so much more. Our team has been testing treadmills for years, and over that time, we’ve refined the process.

In this review, you will find my evaluation of the Wellfit TM007 as a professional treadmill reviewer and fitness expert. You’ll also see objective data I’ve collected in measuring the treadmill’s noise output, speed, incline, and more.

Dimensions/Storability

I was surprised by just how small the TM007 is. I’m only 5’4”, and I sometimes have trouble moving the larger treadmills around in the TRG studio. The TM007 gave me no problems. The wheels engage very quickly (almost a little too quickly), so I could roll it anywhere I needed to.

Wellfit TM007 - action moving treadmill

The treadmill only weighs 103 lbs.

When the treadmill is unfolded, it is 51.3” x 22.3” x 39.5” to 52” (depending on the height adjustment). Folded, it measures only 23.3” long. However, you can adjust the height of the treadmill’s uprights, so the actual height may vary.

The TM007 inclines, and at its highest, the deck is 8” high. I recommend keeping the treadmill in a room with a ceiling height that is at least one foot taller than you are. For example, if you are 6’ tall, use this treadmill in a space with 7’ ceilings. That will allow you to use the treadmill while inclined without worrying about hitting your head.

Wellfit TM007 - hero walking

I measured the deck to be 6” tall when it is not inclined.

Onboard Workouts & Apps

There’s only one onboard workout for the TM007: the manual training mode. However, the Wellfit Fitness app is free, and it has many, many more training options and programs. I used the app a lot with this treadmill.

Wellfit TM007 - apps wellfit fitness

The Wellfit Fitness app has scenic runs, structured workouts, challenges, and customizable programs.

Wellfit’s classes have music, but you can also pause the radio and play your own music if you prefer. I like the different backgrounds that you can choose from. They remind me of the kaleidoscopic graphics shown on the multimedia player while listening to music on the computer when I was a kid. (Anyone else remember that?)

Wellfit TM007 apps zwift

You don’t have to use the Wellfit Fitness app. You can also pair the treadmill to Peloton, Zwift, Kinomap, and many other apps.

Console

No touchscreens here! The Wellfit TM007 is a more affordable treadmill, so it has an LED console instead. You can view all the metrics you need right on this display. There are also shortcut buttons to change your speed and incline more quickly. Other buttons include those for starting, pausing, and stopping the treadmill. There are tactile speed and incline adjustment buttons on the treadmill handles, too.

Wellfit TM007 display

You can view your time, distance, incline level, speed, calories, and heart rate.

The treadmill is Bluetooth. That’s what allows you to connect to the various compatible apps. Bluetooth also lets you connect the treadmill to your device so you can play music through the speakers. Bluetooth does not allow you to connect a heart rate monitor.

Wellfit TM007 grip

To check your heart rate, you can hold the pulse grips on the treadmill handles.

As for storage, you get four shallow storage compartments. They aren’t the best for storing water bottles, but you can use the sticky rubber pads that come with the treadmill to help keep small items, like your phone, in place.

Wellfit TM007 cup holder

The treadmill also comes with a water bottle holder you can attach to the side of the treadmill, but it sits very low to the ground.

Build Quality

While the Wellfit TM007 Treadmill is affordable, it also has a nice build quality. I found it easy to put together on my own, too, which is another big plus. Most of the treadmill is already assembled, and then you just have to fix a few things into place.

Frame

The Wellfit TM007 has a steel alloy frame. Given our experience testing treadmills and the size of this treadmill, I expect the TM007 to be best for walkers and runners under 265 lbs.

One of the most interesting features of the TM007 is the adjustable height uprights. At their lowest, the uprights make the treadmill only 39” tall. That leaves the bottom of the console about 27” off the deck. At its tallest, the console is 52” with the bottom of the console 40” from the deck.

Wellfit TM007 - height adjustment treadmill

I’m 5’4”, and I set the TM007 close to its highest setting, as the lowest setting is very short.

To adjust the upright’s height, you have to remove a bolt on either side. I wish the TM007 had a lock and pin system to make the adjustment easier, but I think most households will be able to set it to one height and leave it.

Wellfit TM007 - action walking feet

The footrails are textured but rather narrow, so if you have larger shoes, you might be better off just stepping down to the floor.

Motor

The TM007’s motor is rated as 4 HP. Wellfit suggests stopping the treadmill for at least 10 minutes after every two hours of use. Because the TM007 isn’t a commercial-grade treadmill, I recommend limiting your daily use to two to four hours at most.

I measured the motor’s noise while it ran at 3 miles per hour and at its top speed. It ranged from 53 dB to 65 dB. Then, when inclining with the belt set to 3 mph, the noise was no louder than when it wasn’t inclining.

Wellfit TM007 motor hood

The compact motor fits under this motor hood and plastic housing.

While I think this treadmill is best for walking, you can run on it. The speed range goes from 1 to 8.7 mph. The speed takes about 27 seconds to adjust from its slowest to its fastest speed. This adjustment feels smooth and stable.

As for the incline, there are 15 levels. The default incline range reaches 7.3% at its highest, but you can contact Wellfit for information on how to increase the incline. I reached out to adjust our treadmill’s incline.

Wellfit TM007 - action walking incline

To increase the incline, you can remove the wheels, which makes level zero 4.7% inclined and level fifteen 11.2% inclined.

Deck

The TM007’s running belt is 17.5” x 43” by my measurement. For comparison, a typical running treadmill has a 20 to 22” wide by 60” long deck. It’s great for walking, but not all runners will be able to run on this compact deck comfortably. I had to be mindful of my stride length to run on the TM007, and I preferred keeping the pace to 7 miles per hour or less.

Wellfit TM007 - action running treadmill

I don’t mind going for short and slower runs on the TM007.

Two blue shock absorbers cushion either side of the deck. Compared to most treadmills, the TM007 is on the firmer side, but it’s still more cushioned than running outside on the pavement.

The deck is about ⅝” thick, which is a little thinner than what we see on running treadmills, but on par with other treadmills priced under $500.

Warranty

You get a 3-year frame warranty on the TM007. The motors and other parts are covered for 180 days. This warranty coverage is better than the 1-year frame warranty and 90 parts warranty offered by most cheap treadmills.

Should You Buy the Wellfit TM007 Treadmill

I like the Wellfit TM007 for small spaces and new exercisers. It’s affordable and incredibly compact. Yet, it uses a traditional treadmill folding design, so it feels familiar and stable. The treadmill height adjusts, allowing users of various heights to enjoy this treadmill, particularly if you are short.

It’s easy to roll the TM007 around. It is fairly lightweight, which could allow you to carry it to an upstairs room with the help of an extra set of hands. Yet, you still get a nice speed and incline range on this machine.

Check out the Wellfit TM007 if you are ready to kick off your fitness journey and need a treadmill that is reliable for a few hours of use per day. You can walk or jog on the TM007 with a generous set of training features when you pair your phone via Bluetooth.

This treadmill is for the runner or walker who’s a little extra. Your priorities when treadmill shopping are not minimizing cost but maximizing aesthetic appeal and enticing features. As a reward for choosing this treadmill, NordicTrack throws in a year of iFIT, their premium training service that unlocks the NordicTrack Ultra 1’s full potential.

I started off as a simple runner without a smartwatch. My running clothes were hand-me-downs, and my running shoes were off the bargain rack. Over the past decade and a half, my obsession has grown, leading me to want the best of the best for my training. The Ultra 1 is for the runner ready to make an investment and for the exerciser motivated by something beautiful.

For all its charms, there are drawbacks to this treadmill. I’m diving into the pros and cons below. Check it out.

I’m really impressed with the design quality of the NordicTrack Ultra 1. It’s not something I expected from NordicTrack, but it’s a necessary answer to brands like Peloton, Technogym, and Wahoo, which have offered high-end machines with elite features. The key appeal of this treadmill is its superior build quality with a refined and modern look—NordicTrack nailed it.

With your purchase of the Ultra 1, you get an entire year of iFIT. As an essential part of the treadmill, iFIT unlocks all the high-tech features and puts that large touchscreen to use. Without iFIT, you won’t have access to all the beautiful training classes iFIT offers. iFIT has thousands of treadmill classes and so much more to offer.

We’ve Tested Over 200 Treadmills Looking for the Perfect One For You

I’ve tested every NordicTrack over the last few years, though I have yet to get my hands (feet?) on the Ultra series treadmills. Still, the Ultra 1 has a lot in common with a Freemotion treadmill I tested a while ago, which I would expect since both companies are owned by the same parent companies.

Our review experience comes from testing dozens upon dozens of treadmills. We know what good cushioning and a sturdy design look and feel like. For a unique design like the Ultra 1, we pay close attention to detail.

Editor’s Note, 9/19/2025: While we haven’t received the NordicTrack Ultra 1 Treadmill for proper testing, this review covers our expert’s evaluation based on extensive treadmill testing of many NordicTrack models.

Dimensions/Storability

I think it’s safe to say that if you are considering the Ultra 1 Treadmill, you have a dedicated space to keep it. NordicTrack seems to be targeting commercial spaces and homes with dedicated home gyms with this treadmill. It’s a large, non-folding treadmill meant to be seen and used regularly.

The NordicTrack Ultra 1 Treadmill’s dimensions are 84.7” long, 42.3” wide, and 65” tall. It weighs 747 lbs (as it comes in the box). It’s larger and heavier than 99% treadmills we review, I’d say. Hopefully, you have a permanent spot reserved for this machine.

Don’t forget to account for the ceiling height. The step-up height to the deck is 9. With a 15% top incline to consider, I estimate that a 6’ tall runner needs an 8’ ceiling to train comfortably. In other words, you need a ceiling two feet taller than you are to accommodate the Ultra 1.

Onboard Workouts & Apps

NordicTrack treadmills are all about iFIT, but there’s a twist with the Ultra 1: you get iFIT included with the treadmill for a year.

iFIT is a training platform with coach-led video classes that explore the great outdoors, though there are a few studio classes. Typically, iFIT requires a monthly (or yearly) subscription. The Ultra 1 includes one year of iFIT. It renews at $39/month automatically, or you can pay for a full year at a time for a discounted rate.

An iFIT workout for the treadmill follows a coach as they explore popular running routes and trails. There are both walking and running workouts. Classes with a lot of incline are typically framed as hiking classes.

NordicTrack X24 Console

Here’s a look at a treadmill iFIT class on the NordicTrack X24 screen.

The NordicTrack Ultra 1’s incline and speed will automatically adjust to the levels prescribed by the class. You can override these settings, and iFIT will learn your preferences over time to make the classes more customized to your fitness level.

My favorite way to train with iFIT’s treadmill classes is through ActivePulse. When you pair a compatible Bluetooth heart rate monitor with the Ultra 1, the classes will adjust to keep you in the right heart rate zone. I like this feature because it slows the pace down for incline sections and speeds it up for flat sections, creating a dynamic workout.

My Garmin connects, and I’ve learned that Apple Watches should connect, too, though I don’t have a way to test it for myself.

In addition to treadmill classes, iFIT also offers classes for other equipment and mat classes. NordicTrack makes treadmills, exercise bikes, ellipticals, and rowers, which are all iFIT compatible. There are also yoga, strength, and pilates classes.

Almost everything has an AI component these days, and iFIT is no different. You can opt into the AI Coach feature for personalized class recommendations and scheduling. The AI Coach texts you on your phone, and then you will find the recommended classes queued up on your treadmill screen.

The Google Maps integration allows you to create a virtual route anywhere in the world. While this feature won’t change your speed for you, your incline adjusts to the real-world terrain as closely as possible. You can view an overview of your route, with a marker showing your location, or you can view Street View for a more immersive experience.

Other training options are located in the create tab, alongside the Google Maps integration. There are premade structured workouts, which display the manual training screen but still adjust incline and speed. You can also make your own workouts.

For those of you who are more competitive, the Ergatta Races app may be your go-to iFIT feature. This app pits you against other iFIT users as you race along the virtual course of your choosing. It’s a great way to push yourself and create a hard workout.

Additional apps are available with an iFIT subscription for entertainment. iFIT has Netflix, Prime Video, Pluto TV, Spotify, Amazon Music, iHeartRadio, and Audible.

You can watch any of these entertainment apps while taking an iFIT class, so you still get automatic speed and incline adjustments.

If you choose to cancel your iFIT subscription at the end of the year, you can still log into your iFIT account to access the manual training mode and a featured iFIT class. Your treadmill will need to remain connected to Wi-Fi.

NordicTrack 2450 Treadmill console

Manual training mode is one of the only features available without an active iFIT membership (NordicTrack 2450 pictured above).

Console

The 24” touchscreen on the Ultra 1 treadmill is just the right size. Though NordicTrack has had bigger touchscreens in the past, the 24” screen is my favorite these days. The others were too large and not as high-quality as this one. The Ultra 1’s screen pivots for off-treadmill classes, which I love!

I can’t say how easy it is to reach the screen, having not tried this specific treadmill, but NordicTrack typically does a good job with the screen positioning. Since the treadmill has such large, triangulated uprights, I expect this treadmill to be very sturdy, reducing the screen shake.

One of the departures from the NordicTrack treadmills I’ve come to know very well is the Ultra 1’s audio. There are eight speakers built into this machine. Typically, NordicTrack treadmills feature a soundbar at the bottom of the console, but you are in for a premium audiophile experience on this high-end treadmill.

The fan also gets the luxury treatment. The uprights provide full-body cooling with built-in dual tower fans. A feature they retain from other NordicTrack treadmills is the ability to adjust the airflow based on your workout intensity. If you train harder, the airflow increases to cool you off. You can also manually adjust the fans on the screen.

As I mentioned earlier, this treadmill is Bluetooth. You can connect a heart rate monitor. You can also connect Bluetooth headphones to listen quietly, if you prefer.

For storage, you get a small circular compartment. There’s also a cup holder for a water bottle. A cycling water bottle or slightly larger bottle should fit. Finally, there’s a wireless charging port to hold your phone and keep it powered.

The feature I am most invested in is the incline and speed levers. I really like the look of these. I think they would be easy to use while you are training. However, I’m curious as to how precise you can be with the adjustments and if there’s any chance you hit them with your arm swing.

Build Quality

I feel almost a little overwhelmed writing this section of the review. Even though I’ve written about the build quality for tons of treadmills, the NordicTrack Ultra 1 is really unique. The closest I’ve come to a treadmill like this before is the Freemotion T22.9. Even that treadmill is a shadow of what this one offers. The NordicTrack Ultra 1 is gorgeous, and I only hope that the quality in person is every bit as good as I expect. Or better.

Frame

A motif that I expect from high-end fitness equipment is wood! I love to see it. There’s nothing to distract me from the plastic and industrial wood like a nice piece of wood, finely integrated into a treadmill build. Comparing the Ultra 1 to the Ultra 3 (which is half the price), I can say the wood makes a huge aesthetic difference.

On the performance side of things, I really like the triangulated uprights design. It creates a sturdy and isolated base for the touchscreen, which I hope minimizes console shaking. I don’t mind a shaky screen much, but it’s something the TRG audience often points out over on YouTube.

The footrails are large and spacious, ensuring you have plenty of room to stand to either side of the treadmill. They are also textured to prevent slipping.

This well-built treadmill has a 400-lb weight capacity. Since it’s a more premium design than NordicTrack’s other treadmills, it weighs significantly more and is commercial-grade, I wish the weight capacity were a little higher. Yet, 400 lbs is still a good rating.

Motor

Nothing convinces me that a motor’s horsepower is almost meaningless as much as seeing that the Ultra 1 has a 3.0 CHP DC motor. Sure, it’s brushless, but so are the motors of very, very cheap treadmills. The NordicTrack X24 has a 4.25 CHP DC motor (also with a lifetime warranty).

The Ultra 1’s motor has a lifetime warranty and is a commercial-grade product, so I expect it to hold up to serious daily training.

If the Ultra 1 can’t support heavy use, I would be very surprised. I expect this treadmill to be an excellent option for marathoners. At this price point, it’s designed for someone serious about their running routine.

Unfortunately, I do not have the Ultra 1 in the TRG studio for testing, so I can’t speak to the motor’s performance or noise output. I have high hopes, though.

The speed range is better than that of any other NordicTrack and most other residential treadmills on the market. With a maximum speed of 15 mph, you can hit a 4-minute mile if you want to.

As for the incline range, it’s -3% to 15%. I wanted this incline range to wow me a little more. After all, the NordicTrack X24 and X16 treadmills are a fraction of the Ultra 1’s cost, and they go from -6% to 40%! Making an incline treadmill with the Ultra 1’s build would probably raise the price to even more astronomical levels, so I’ll be content with this better-than-average range.

Deck

I’m excited to see the Ultra 1’s deck. It uses Reflex cushioning, which I love on the Freemotion treadmills. It’s the softest treadmill cushioning I’ve ever encountered, which feels very bouncy and responsive. If I want to practice running fast with a low impact, this is the cushioning I want. It’s like Hoka running shoes in treadmill form.

The deck is 22” wide by 60” long. This provides plenty of room to run at a top speed of 15 mph.

My only confusion stems from the plastic bar running across the top of the deck. There’s a good span of exposed belt in front of it, and the motor is clearly located beneath the deck.

I don’t understand why NordicTrack didn’t go with a waterfall deck design. Maybe it’s for stability, but I have a fear of stepping over that bar and tripping. It’s probably an unfounded fear, but I’m a little confused by the choice from an aesthetic standpoint, too.

The step-up height to the deck is 9”. This deck height isn’t too tall, and it’s necessary to leave room for the gloriously soft cushioning.

Warranty

The NordicTrack Ultra 1 Treadmill has a lifetime warranty on its motor and frame. I would like to see a more substantial warranty on the deck, parts, and labor. NordicTrack does not disclose the details for the rest of the Ultra 1’s warranty. If it’s like other NordicTrack equipment, then it is two years for parts and one for the tablet and labor.

Should You Buy the NordicTrack Ultra 1

For those of you looking for a show-stopper of a treadmill, the NordicTrack Ultra 1 checks a lot of boxes. From its elegant wooden uprights to its modern geometry, this treadmill wows. It’s also loaded with premium tech features. Those exclusive to the Ultra 1 include a full-body fan and eight premium speakers.

You won’t be let down by its performance either. The maximum speed is 15 miles per hour, and the deck has one of the best cushioning systems I’ve ever tried. It’s super soft and responsive. The Ultra 1 was built for serious runners who want to dedicate a large space to a high-end, high-performance treadmill.

Just make sure that you love iFIT, as you only get it for free with the Ultra 1 for one year. With iFIT, there’s heart rate training, entertainment apps, and more.

While I don’t associate Horizon treadmills with sleek and futuristic innovation, there’s something about them that reflects extensive experience in manufacturing quality fitness equipment. Horizon’s parent company, Johnson Health Tech, knows how to make a good, affordable treadmill. From the moment I unboxed the T101, I caught little details that made all the difference.

The T101 isn’t here to dazzle you. Even with this newest, tech-enhanced upgrade, it’s still fairly simplistic. However, that’s what keeps it user-friendly and affordable—two of its biggest strengths.

Stepping onto the deck of the T101, I remembered, once again, why I like Horizon so much. The value is there, and for the price, it’s a brand that always makes sense. Scroll down to discover what limitations the T101 has, but also why it continues to rank so highly for me.

We’ve been using the Horizon T101 for years, and we were super excited to get the newest treadmill for 2025. It’s been upgraded with better tech features that keep it competitive with other affordable treadmills and even treadmills priced substantially higher.

Whether you want to train with standard treadmill programs or upgrade your experience with training apps, you will enjoy the T101. I have a lot of respect for Horizon’s ability to give walkers and runners a customizable treadmill experience. I like that subscription-based apps are entirely optional but compatible with the T101.

I tested out all of the T101’s training capabilities, and I’m happy to report that the walking experience is great. However, I also ran on the T101 and put it together, so I have a lot more to report about this treadmill! Keep reading for my full experience.

Horizon T101 Treadmill Video Review

We’ve Tested Treadmills for Every Budget

The Horizon T101 is very affordable, but it’s far from the cheapest treadmill we’ve tested. Our team has tested treadmills ranging from about $100 to over $10k. That’s quite a large range of treadmills, and we know what it takes to make a good treadmill at any price.

Regardless of a treadmill’s price, we put it through rigorous testing to evaluate its construction and performance. We test the noise level, motor responsiveness, and incline accuracy. We take any and all measurements that we can to give you a clear picture of the treadmill being reviewed.

Editor’s Note, 6/13/2025: This review has been updated to reflect the performance and specs of the newest edition of the Horizon T101 Treadmill.

Dimensions/Storability

Compared to most fitness treadmills, the Horizon T101 is relatively small. It measures only 70.5” long, 34” wide, and 59” tall. When folded, it’s only 46” long and 61” tall. Horizon recommends allotting an extra two feet of space on either side of the treadmill, one foot in front of the treadmill, and 6.5 feet behind the treadmill for safety.

Horizon T101 - action walk

The Horizon T101 is rather small, but allowing extra space around a treadmill is best for safety.

For the ceiling height, you will need a ceiling 1.5’ taller than the tallest treadmill user in your home. At the 10% incline, the treadmill deck is 13” tall. I recommend a few additional inches for comfort and safety, should there be any vertical movement when you are walking or running. For example, a 6’ runner would need a 7.5’ ceiling.

The T101 weighs about 180 lbs. When you need to move it, just fold it up and pull down on the deck to tilt the treadmill onto its transport wheels. The deck wobbles a bit when you roll the treadmill around, making it a little harder to transport.

To release the treadmill from its folded position, use your foot to press the kick release. The deck will then lower softly to the floor. When unfolding the treadmill, I noticed that the deck wobbles from the force of the deck dropping. I wish the T101 were a little sturdier to prevent this.

Horizon T101 Treadmill Review

While the T101 could be sturdier during unfolding and transport, I can easily move it around.

Onboard Workouts & Apps

In a market overrun by touchscreens and subscription services, the Horizon T101 is a breath of fresh air. Not because it eschews subscription services entirely, but because it refuses to make them mandatory for the treadmill experience.

The T101 has six onboard training programs, three of which have ten levels you can progress through. As they are onboard programs, they are free to use. I noticed an error in the user manual, so I want to let you know that you should press “program” to change which program you have selected and the speed arrows to change the level and time limit.

FTMS Apps

In addition to the included programs, the T101 is compatible with FTMS, which is a protocol that makes fitness apps and exercise equipment compatible. Some popular FTMS apps you can use are JRNY, Peloton, Zwift, and Kinomap.

Because Horizon’s parent company, Johnson Health Tech, acquired Bowflex, they now promote using JRNY, which is native to Bowflex machines. JRNY includes structured workouts and trainer-led classes that start and stop the T101. However, they do not control the speed or incline. You get full control of your settings to customize the workout experience to your fitness level more effectively.

Horizon T101 - phone holder

You’ll see stickers on the T101 advertising JRNY, but a subscription to JRNY is not required to use the treadmill.

Apps, like Kinomap, can control the incline settings on the treadmill. I haven’t found an app that can control the speed yet, but if you know of an app with that feature, it should work with the T101.

Console

The Horizon T101 does not have a touchscreen display, so you will have to use your phone or tablet to view the apps I mentioned above. It uses LED windows to display your metrics. There are four of these, and they show incline, time, calories, distance, heart rate, and speed. There is a button to toggle the treadmill display to see all of the metrics.

Horizon T101 - console overview

Training in a dark room? No problem! The bright blue LED windows are easy to see.

Plenty of buttons are available on the T101. They are not raised buttons, so they are not ideal for users with visual impairments. The buttons control the incline, speed, fan, and Bluetooth connectivity.

Horizon T101 - console button

There are quick-adjust buttons for most of the speed and incline levels.

I prefer to use the speed and incline dials, which are on the ends of the stability handles. There are also EKG pulse grips here, so if you are tracking your heart rate with them, you can easily make adjustments to the performance settings.

Horizon T101 - scroll wheel

The dials are more enclosed than previous T101 models to prevent you from accidentally hitting them.

You can also pair your device with the T101’s Bluetooth speakers to listen to audio louder. The speakers’ strength is nice and can be controlled from your phone. The T101 does not have separate volume controls on the console.

One thing you should know about the Bluetooth feature is that you can pair a heart rate monitor, but only when the T101 is not connected to a third-party app. The T101 has two settings for its Bluetooth: app or heart rate. Both cannot be active at the same time, but the speaker Bluetooth is separate, allowing you to use them at any time.

To store your phone or tablet (or both), there are two tablet racks. I feel secure setting my device in either. However, the top tablet rack makes it a little hard to see JRNY’s metrics on your phone since the ledge covers up the screen slightly.

Horizon T101 - water holder

For additional storage, you get two cup holders.

Finally, the T101 has a fan. It’s powerful and angled well. It has multiple speeds and is effective at cooling you off while you are training.

Build Quality

I test treadmills at many price points, and I really think the Horizon T101 is a standout, in terms of quality, at its price point. It’s a huge improvement over treadmills priced just $100 less. There are few treadmills as good as the T101 within its price range. At the time of writing this review, the T101 is just $599.

Frame

One of the top questions I have when reviewing a small and affordable treadmill like the T101 is whether it is sturdy. Fortunately, the T101 has a steel frame that I feel confident walking on. Even when it’s inclining, it feels stable.

Horizon T101 - uprights

I noticed that some online renderings of the T101 show it with a crossbar, but it does not have one.

The treadmill handles are really nice. They are padded for a soft and premium feel. The steel uprights are held in place on each side by three bolts, so if you need to use the handles to support yourself, you can.

Horizon T101 - action incline

I like the texture of the T101’s handles because it feels like a feature you would find on a more expensive model.

Horizon T101 - side rail

As for the footrails, they are spacious enough to stand on as needed. They are plastic and textured to help you keep your footing.

Motor

Though Horizon has removed the horsepower rating of the T101’s motor from its website, I took the motor hood off our model to investigate. It is a 2.5-horsepower motor, which is great for walking. Generally, we recommend a 3.0-horsepower motor for running, so I wouldn’t recommend the T101 as a daily running treadmill.

However, the maximum speed is 10 miles per hour. You can pick up the pace if you want, but I recommend upgrading to the Horizon 7.0 AT if you want to run regularly.

While a key feature of Horizon treadmills has long been a responsive motor, I did not find that to be the case on the T101. It took 32 seconds to accelerate from 0.5 mph to 10 mph. While this isn’t abnormally slow for a treadmill, it’s a little out of character for Horizon. Still, a slow acceleration has the advantage of feeling stable and smooth.

Horizon T101 - motor hood

The Horizon 7.0 AT retains the quick-response motor we expect from the brand, but the new T101 opts for a more gentle acceleration that feels smoother.

On the other hand, the incline adjustment is fast. It takes 16 seconds to go from 0% to 10% incline. You can do incline intervals without issue.

Horizon T101 - action incline walking

I measured the incline and found it to be very accurate overall. It is stated to be a 0 to 10% incline range, and I got 0 to 9.6%, which is great!

As for the motor’s sound, I measured the noise output to be between 57 decibels (3 mph) and 70 dB (10 mph). The incline is quiet and does not add to the overall noise, I found. These measurements were taken without anyone walking or running on the deck, which is our standard protocol.

Deck

Horizon T101 - deck size

The T101’s smaller belt is best for walking.

While the T101’s running area is stated to be 20” wide by 55” long, I measured the belt at about 19.5” wide, so slightly narrower, but not by much. Still, the most important measurement is the length, which may be insufficient for some runners to hit the top speed (10 mph) comfortably.

Horizon T101 - deck side

Since the T101 has a low step-up height of only 7 ⅛”, you can step onto the deck more easily than bulkier treadmills.

I measured the deck’s thickness. The board is ¾”, which is pretty typical of most home treadmills. Commercial-grade machines are not much thicker at just 1”.

The cushioning is moderately soft. It’s not as soft as Horizon’s running treadmills, as the T101 has less robust shock absorbers and only two types of shocks (as far as I can tell). Overall, I like the feel of walking and jogging on this treadmill.

Warranty

The T101 has a fantastic warranty. The motor and frame are covered by a true lifetime warranty. Sometimes, “lifetime” just means the lifetime of the machine, as determined by the manufacturer. Horizon, however, states that “lifetime” applies to the lifetime or the original owner of the treadmill, which is great! Please note that this warranty is non-transferable.

As for parts and labor, they are covered for one year. While less impressive, this warranty length is standard.

Should You Buy the Horizon T101 Treadmill

The Horizon T101 is a smart buy for anyone looking for a trustworthy walking treadmill at a good price. It’s got a great build and an outstanding warranty. The T101 is one of the most affordable treadmills that you can put some real miles on without worrying about burning the motor out too soon.

You don’t need a subscription to work out on the T101. It has plenty of onboard programs. However, it has Bluetooth connectivity that connects to apps like JRNY, Zwift, and Peloton for more advanced workouts, if you want a premium training platform.

The T101 is such a good treadmill that it’s hard to find drawbacks, but I don’t recommend it for serious runners. It performs very solidly as a walking treadmill, and you can incline it from 0 to 10%.

I gravitate toward Peloton when I want a serious workout. Sometimes, if I have a bad outdoor run, I’ll take a Peloton treadmill class later in the day to make me feel better about running again. When I take a class with Becs Gentry, Rebecca Kennedy, or any of the other wonderful Peloton coaches, I’m reminded of what kind of coach I want to be.

The Peloton Tread+ isn’t a backup for running outside. It’s a valid alternative that almost feels every bit as enjoyable as feeling the sun on your face and lapping a beautiful location. It’s like showing up for a run group that’s there all the time, whenever you need it.

Now, while I have a lot of complimentary things to say about the Tread+ and the overall Peloton experience, it’s important to note a few things beforehand. One, the Peloton platform is an ongoing expense, and the Tread+ itself is quite expensive. It also wasn’t until Peloton added safety features to the Tread+ that we even felt comfortable endorsing it, and that’s after a recall.

Keep reading to discover why I’m such a Peloton stan and when investing in the premium Tread+ might be ideal.

The Peloton Tread+ needed a serious makeover to address the reasons it was recalled. We also can’t ignore how much people loved the Tread+ and wanted to see it rereleased. As it stands now, I think the Tread+ has addressed the most crucial drawbacks, but could be even better with more intensive updates.

Then I think about how much I love Peloton’s content. It’s one of my favorites. I like the Peloton app on the treadmill, on my phone, indoors, outdoors–pretty much everywhere. Peloton Tread+ Video Review

Before The Recall, We Put Miles On The Tread+

Before it was recalled, we had the Peloton Tread+. This treadmill has only been updated since then with added safety features, so it is the same treadmill that we had before the recall. This review shares our experience using the Tread+ (as well as our old photos of it) and our thoughts on the safety features that have been added since having it.

We have also used Peloton’s training content for years and continue to use it in the app on our phones and on other equipment like the Peloton Tread, Peloton Bike, and Bike+.

Editor’s Note, 7/16/2025: We last used the Peloton Tread+ before the recall, but we’ve been training on the Peloton Tread for over 4 years. The edition of the Tread+ featured in this review does not have the new safety features, but it is otherwise the exact same treadmill.

Dimensions/Storability

The Peloton Tread+ is a large treadmill. It doesn’t fold up, and it requires a designated space to be used and stored. At 455 lbs, the Tread+ is extremely heavy, and I’m not volunteering to move it around on my own.

When we had our model, it would take a couple of us to lift up the back end to engage the wheels and move it around. There are two front transport wheels, but they’re small, and lifting the treadmill to use the wheels is challenging. Make sure to have a spot for the Tread+ to stay.

Its dimensions are 75″ long, 36.5″ wide, and 72″ tall. Peloton suggests keeping 24″ to the left, right, and front of the treadmill, as well as 78.7″ of space at the rear cleared when you’re using it. You’ll need to factor in all of these dimensions to determine if you have enough floor space.

When inclined, the Peloton Tread+ is 6’8″ tall. The deck is about 18″ tall at the front when fully inclined. We recommend adding around 30″ to your height to determine if you have a tall enough ceiling to use the Tread+.

Onboard Workouts & Apps

Most treadmills with touchscreens also include subscription training content. The Peloton Tread+ comes with trainer-led workout videos that are available to stream directly from the touchscreen.

Peloton is arguably best known for its training content. The Tread+ is one of only two treadmills that give you access to Peloton’s content and full suite of features. While you can use the Peloton platform with other treadmills, some features, like the leaderboard and high fives, are not available.

Peloton All-Access Membership

Here is what you can expect from Peloton’s All-Access Membership. First, it costs $44 per month. It’s a little higher in price than other subscription training platforms, such as iFIT. However, the training content has a significant following with dedicated members.

It features an instructor in front of a camera, often riding an exercise bike or running on a treadmill. These studio workouts and instructors are what Peloton is known for. Many of the instructors were recruited from smaller gyms all over the world and established Peloton as the force that it is.

Most of the trainers have significant followings outside of Peloton, too. The instructors make you feel like you know them. They’re like having a personal trainer in the comfort of your home and having a friend to work out with. If you’ve taken some Peloton workouts, you probably have a favorite instructor or two.

Peloton Tread+ Screen

The workouts are available live and on demand.

Each workout has a leaderboard on the side so you can see who else is taking (or has taken) the workout, as well as how you rank. The leaderboard is for competing and creating a sense of community. You can give and receive virtual high-fives, which is a nice way for people to connect and cheer each other on.

The library mainly consists of indoor, studio workouts for the treadmill, exercise bike, and rower, as well as on the mat for strength training, yoga, and pilates. There are outdoor-filmed workouts that follow one of Peloton’s instructors through real-life locations as they run or hike. There aren’t as many of these workouts, though.

When you don’t want to follow along with a trainer, you can take Peloton’s Lanebreak workouts. These are games where you hit specific targets as your avatar rolls down different lanes. You change your speed and incline to change lanes to hit the targets to collect points. Each game is structured as a complete workout with a warm-up and cool-down.

All of Peloton’s workouts, including the Lanebreak workouts, feature curated playlists of music. Peloton even has Artist Series that focuses on specific musicians. Peloton really does well with its music. Most workouts have a theme that revolves around the music too like Pop Runs, and 90s Dance Runs.

Also included with the membership are preloaded streaming apps. These include Netflix, Max, Disney+, YouTube, TV, and the NBA app. You must be subscribed to Peloton’s All-Access Membership to stream these directly from the Tread+ screen. You then log into each app with your account for each of the apps.

The “Just Run” mode is the treadmill’s manual mode where you can do your own thing while tracking your metrics on a blank screen. Alternatively, the Scenic runs include outdoor Peloton classes and manual, distance goal, and time goal workouts. These workouts are filmed along beautiful trails.

Onboard Workouts

I think a big reason to get the Peloton Tread+ is to use it with the subscription training content. Peloton only has two treadmills in their lineup, and the Tread+ is the premium model with more training features that are often utilized in the running workouts.

You can use the Tread+ without a subscription. Currently, you can only see your speed and incline levels while viewing the login screen. There is no content on the screen. You can’t even see your total time or distance. You also can’t stream from Netflix or the other 3rd-party apps; you have to subscribe to the membership to use them.

Console

The console is similar to the Peloton Tread, but it has a large 32″ touch screen. The screen is of nice quality, although it hasn’t been updated since the treadmill was originally released a few years ago.

Peloton Tread+ Screen Adjustment

You can adjust the angle of the screen depending on your preference.

This screen is one of the largest home treadmills. The screen doesn’t pivot to either side. It would be nice if it did for the Peloton mat classes. You still should be able to see the instructor just fine while standing behind the deck for those classes, though.

The console is really streamlined, just like the Peloton Tread. It has a stop button to stop the belt and wake the treadmill when it is in sleep mode. There is also a button for the speaker volume.

Peloton Tread+ Speed Adjustment Dial

Other than these, the Tread+ has roller adjustment knobs on either side of the handles.

The roller knobs allow you to adjust the speed (on the right) and incline (on the left) by rolling your palms over. They are my favorite method for adjusting a treadmill, as I find it creates a unique experience and encourages me to train by RPE.

When you press the middle of the roller knobs, you can jump to the next whole number. So, if you’re at 3.3 mph, when you press it, it will increase to 4 mph. You can set 3 preset speeds to adjust quickly on the touch screen in the workouts, too.

The Peloton Tread+ has an Auto-Incline feature that adjusts the grade of the deck based on the instructor’s cues. The suggested incline range will change based on the instructor’s cues, and when you turn on the auto-incline feature, it will keep you at the same point within the range that you are in currently.

For example, if the range is currently 0 to 3%, and the instructor recommends 4 to 6%, your incline will change to 4%. If you were at 3%, your incline would change to 6%.

The speakers are clear and adjustable. They also allow you to adjust the volume to hear more of the instructor or more of the music.

Peloton Tread+ Storage

The console has minimal storage.

There is a tray with two cup holders for your water and phone. The tray is made out of plastic, and it’s pretty flimsy. Water bottles tend to rattle while running. There isn’t a device rack to watch content from your phone or tablet.

The Peloton Tread+ now has a Tread Lock, which locks the screen and puts the Tread+ to sleep after 45 seconds of inactivity. You’ll create a 4-digit passcode to unlock it. This is an added safety feature.

Build Quality

The Peloton Tread+ has a sleek design like the Peloton Tread, but it features a flat, slat belt, which definitely adds more training options. The belt is similar to treadmills like the Sole ST90, Technogym SkillRun, and Woodway 4Front.

The Peloton Tread+ has a weight limit of 300 pounds. For a treadmill that weighs around 450 lbs, we expected the weight capacity to be higher. This weight limit is the same as many smaller and lighter treadmills that fold up and is lower than the weight limit for comparable Sole and NordicTrack machines.

Frame

The frame is made out of carbon steel, like the Tread. It supports the deck with four adjustable leveling feet underneath so you can prevent it from rocking. Solid steel beams reinforce the deck, and the slat belt offers good support. The uprights are made of steel to support the console and handles.

There is some screen wobble. The screen attaches to the console with a single steel bar at the back. When you run at higher speeds, the screen shakes, just like on the Peloton Tread. The Tread+ is solid in the deck, but the console and large 32″ touch screen could be more stable.

Some shaking is common on treadmills with touchscreens, and it’s less noticeable if you are the treadmill user than if you are watching someone else use the treadmill. When you are running on the treadmill, you and the screen are moving at the same time.

The handles are very similar to the Tread. They extend along the sides of the deck and are pretty slim. The front handle is also one continuous piece, so it’s easy to grab.

Peloton Tread+ Side Pocket

Along the side of the deck is a zipper storage pocket.

The zipper storage pocket along the side isn’t very deep, but it could hold some resistance bands. It isn’t big enough for dumbbells or anything like that.

Motor

The Peloton Tread+ has 2.0 HP AC motor. AC motors are commonly found in commercial treadmills. They are built for heavy use, like the foot traffic that treadmills in public gyms have. They hold up better than DC motors, which are found in most home treadmills, though they may take longer to make speed and incline adjustments.

Considering its price, this motor is appropriate. Even the Sole ST90, which is priced at about $2000 less, has a 2.0 HP AC motor. AC motors are louder than DC motors, so just keep this in mind. The Tread+’s motor is pretty loud when it is increased to its highest speeds.

The motor moves the belt up to 12.5 mph. This is just under a 5-minute mile running pace. This is pretty comparable to most home treadmills.

Peloton Tread+ Inclined

The Tread+ also inclines up to 15%.

It doesn’t decline to simulate downhill running.

Deck

The deck is the most unique feature of the Tread+. There aren’t very many flat, slat belt treadmills on the market. The deck is 20″ wide and 67″ long. There is plenty of room to run for all stride lengths. This deck length is longer than most treadmills, which have a length of 65”.

Peloton Tread+ Slat Belt

The belt is made out of rubber slats that absorb the shock when your feet land.

It feels different to run on the Tread+ than on treadmills with a standard belt. The slats are absorbent, but there isn’t any give or bounce in the deck. It feels firm to run on; some of our experts describe it as running on an outdoor track. When we had the Tread+, many of us would get some discomfort in our legs after running on it because of the lack of give in the deck.

You might fatigue faster while running on the Tread+ than when you run on other treadmills or even outside. A more compliant surface, like this slat belt, can make your runs feel more challenging. It’s a bit similar to running on sand or grass in the way it dampens your footsteps.

Because of the slat belt, I think the Tread+ is for people looking for a serious workout. Whether you’re a runner or you want to challenge yourself, this is a treadmill for that.

“Free Mode” disengages the belt from the motor so you can move and control the belt’s pace with your feet. You must hold the front handle and push from it to get the belt moving. The belt is heavy, so it’s hard to move without the momentum from pushing off from the handle. You can’t incline the deck in Free Mode like you can with the Sole ST90 Treadmill.

Safety Features

Given that the Peloton Tread+ was recalled due to safety issues, you may wonder if it is now safe. Peloton has included a safety guard at the back of the deck. We haven’t tested this to see exactly how effective it is, so we are uncertain of how effective this improvement may be.

The big issue before was the slat belt, which caused people and pets to get caught and pulled under the treadmill. Unfortunately, slat belts, in general, have the potential to catch fingers, hair, or paws between them. Because the Tread+ is motorized, it is more dangerous than manual treadmills.

All motorized treadmills can be dangerous, so it is important to keep the area clear of children and pets when using any treadmill.

The safety guard at the rear of the deck is designed to stop the belt if pulled or hit. This design should prevent anything and anyone from getting pulled under the deck. We are glad that Peloton has implemented this safety feature, along with the locking screen that locks the treadmill after 45 seconds of inactivity, which I mentioned earlier.

It is important to know that the Peloton Tread+ is the same treadmill that was recalled before; it just has safety features now. This isn’t a new treadmill.

Warranty

Considering how pricy the Tread+ is, the 5-year frame, motor, and belt warranty are short. It also comes with a 1-year warranty for the touchscreen and most components. We like to see a 10-year frame and motor warranty, at least.

Should You Buy the Peloton Tread+

To justify the high cost of the Peloton Tread+, you should decide whether your dedication to the Peloton platform is sufficient. If you are already a Peloton subscriber or confident you will use the platform long-term, the Tread+ is a great investment. However, I do not recommend the Tread+ for anyone who is not interested in subscribing to Peloton.

With the additional safety features, we feel more comfortable recommending the Tread+. Yet, you should still ensure that no pets or children are near the treadmill while it’s in use. I wish Peloton had used the time between the Tread+’s recall and relaunch to update the treadmill further, but I’m happy the most pressing issues were addressed.

The Tread+ is better suited for athletes and workout enthusiasts who want a challenging treadmill. The flat, slat-belt design is challenging, and the Free Mode adds even more training variables, and the powerful 2.0 HP AC motor can be used for a lot of purposes. In addition, it is large and non-folding, so it’s best for someone happy to give up additional space for their training.

Peloton Tread+ Q&A / FAQ

Why did Peloton get rid of the Tread+?

Following several reported injuries and the death of a child, Peloton recalled the Tread+. The Peloton Tread+ is now back on the market with updated safety features.

A safety guard at the back of the deck that stops the belt when the guard is pulled to prevent pulling objects or people underneath the deck. The Tread+ also locks after 45 seconds of inactivity and requires a 4-digit passcode to unlock.

Can you watch Netflix on the Peloton Tread+?

You can stream from Netflix when you subscribe to Peloton’s All-Access Membership on the touchscreen. You will need to log into your account for Netflix after subscribing, but Netflix is available with Peloton’s training content.

Is our Peloton Tread+ Treadmill review a paid review?

The Peloton Tread+ has a rubber slat belt that fingers, hair, paws, or other objects could get caught in. The original treadmill before it was recalled didn’t have a guard or safety feature to stop the belt, besides a safety key. This caused children and pets to get pulled under the deck.

Is our Peloton Tread+ Treadmill review a paid review?

We were not paid to create this review of the Peloton Tread+. When we had the Peloton Tread+, before it was recalled, we purchased the Tread+ ourselves to test it out, allowing us to provide you with this review.

Following along with the star-studded lineup of Peloton trainers during spin classes and indoor runs was all the rage when the brand first launched, and to me, it still is. Part of my job is testing subscription training content, along with treadmills. Even after trying almost every training app out there, I find myself logging into Peloton in my free time.

The instructors have won me over, along with thousands of others, but what about their treadmill? We’ve had the Peloton Tread for over four years now. We’re rarely able to keep the same treadmill for years to test because machines are often updated year after year.

When testing the Peloton Tread, we’ve uncovered key information you should know before making a purchase. While other treadmills are compatible with the Peloton platform, on the Tread and Tread+ feature the leaderboard and other exclusive features. Keep reading to decide if it’s worth it!

It’s undeniable that Peloton has become a household name in the home fitness industry. Although their equipment is chic, the training content and most notably, the fitness instructors are what, or rather, who is carrying the team. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy the treadmill a lot, but the instructors convince me to use the Tread over other machines.

With thousands of live and on-demand trainer-led classes, gamified workouts, and now streaming from Netflix and the NBA App, Peloton’s All-Access Membership is pricy but enticing to level up your fitness routine at home. Heck, even the Peloton App, which doesn’t have all of the features beyond the workout videos, is what I use when I train off the job.

You can use the Peloton App on other treadmills, but if you want to utilize all of Peloton’s features, you’ll need to buy their equipment. The Peloton Tread is nice-looking and functional, but does it live up to society’s expectations for Peloton?

After four years, our team is coming around on the Peloton Tread. This treadmill is a favorite to some and avoided by others—what will you decide? I will review all of our team’s thoughts as I break down every component to help you make an informed decision.

Peloton Tread Video Review

We’ve Been Coaching and Taking Fitness Classes for Years

I love a good in-person fitness class. As someone who has taught high-intensity group fitness classes for years, I love it when a home fitness brand offers subscription training that’s available from the comfort of your home. Since I’ve led and taken countless group fitness classes, both in-person and virtually, I’ve been able to assess subscription training platforms with a close and personal lens.

Our team has been testing and reviewing treadmills and other fitness equipment for over a decade now, so we know all the ins and outs of what to look for in a high-quality machine.

Not only do we compare models to one another to help you determine the right fit for you, but we compile every review with unbiased and informed opinions that reflect our direct experience using all kinds of treadmills and taking all kinds of subscription fitness classes.

Editor’s Note, 7/11/2025: We’ve updated our Peloton Tread review to reflect yet another year of testing.

Dimensions/Storability

Peloton Tread - profile

The Peloton Tread is definitely not the largest non-folding treadmill on the market.

Its dimensions are 68” L x 33” W x 62” H. Even though its dimensions make it a little more compact than treadmills in its class, the fact that the deck doesn’t fold up means the Tread can’t be stored. It weighs 290 lbs, so it’s heavy and rather difficult to move.

We have found that treadmills of similar weight, like the Sole F85, are easier to move because the deck folds up and there are transport wheels under the base so you can push this treadmill around. Yet, the Tread’s non-folding frame means there is one less part to break—a massive advantage for durability.

The Peloton Tread has two front wheels, so you have to lift the back end to move it. Even though it can be moved, it’s pretty difficult to do so. Having a designated space is required for the Peloton Tread.

Along with factoring in the total dimensions, we recommend having a few feet surrounding the treadmill, especially at the rear of the deck, to safely and properly use it. Ceiling height and floor space are also important to consider when determining if you have enough room for the Peloton Tread in your home.

The deck’s step-up height is fairly slim at just 8” high from the floor to the top of the side rails when the deck is at 0%. It’s just under 15” off the floor when fully inclined. For someone who is a 6’0” runner, we recommend having an 8-foot high ceiling to use the Tread and its incline. This ceiling height gives you plenty of room to incline the treadmill and accommodates vertical movement while running.

Onboard Workouts & Apps

Many premium home treadmills on the market come with touch screens and subscription training content that’s integrated into the machine. Most popular brands offer their own subscription content that requires a monthly fee to use.

Being from Peloton, the Peloton Tread allows you to stream Peloton’s subscription training content straight from the treadmill’s touchscreen. Here’s the rundown of what to expect with Peloton’s subscription content and what you have access to without a subscription to the Peloton Tread.

Peloton All-Access Membership

Subscribing to Peloton’s membership gives you full access to all of the content on the Peloton Tread’s touchscreen. The All-Access Membership is required to use Peloton’s content on the brand’s equipment. This membership costs $44 per month. It’s priced a little higher than comparable subscription fitness platforms like iFIT, which is $39 per month. The two subscriptions vary a little bit in the type of content they offer, which I’ll get into in a moment.

Peloton Tread - content

Peloton features live and on-demand trainer-led workout videos.

Most of their classes are filmed in professional studios, which is where Peloton shines. Peloton has a star-studded roster of trainers, most of whom have pretty significant social media followings. The trainers are where Peloton stands out. Many members, including us, have favorite instructors with whom they prefer to take classes.

Peloton also has outdoor workouts led by its instructors and with scenery only. These are similar to iFIT, but the studio classes are still Peloton’s focus. There aren’t very many of these workouts, but it’s nice to have more variety.

Peloton Tread - content-1

Peloton offers classes in a variety of disciplines.

On the Peloton Tread, you can take walking, intervals, tread boot camp, hiking, jogging, and running classes. There are also cycling, rowing, strength, stretching, yoga, and meditation classes.

In each workout, there is a leaderboard on the right side of the screen, where members compete against other members. If you are less competitive, you can also dole out high fives to anyone in the live or on-demand class with you at the same time.

During live classes, instructors will shout out usernames from the leaderboard. You can also give and receive virtual high-fives from other members, which helps create a sense of community even when you’re working out alone at home.

Another area that Peloton nails is the music. Each workout has a curated playlist of songs hand-selected by the instructor. This way, you listen to them with the instructor. So, when you’re picking up the pace for a sprint, the music often intensifies, which is intentional by the trainer to add to the energy of the class. Many of the workouts are designed around different musical artists and themes, which is fun.

When you don’t want to follow along with an instructor, Peloton’s Lanebreak features gamified workouts that require you to hit specific targets as your avatar moves down six different lanes by changing your speed and incline levels.

Each Lanebreak session is still structured like a workout, so in the beginning, you’ll get a built-in warm-up, gradually increase your pace and intensity, and then cool down towards the end. These games all have curated playlists, too.

Peloton also has an “Entertainment” section on their equipment, including the Peloton Tread, where you can stream from 3rd-party apps such as Netflix, Max, Disney+, YouTube TV, and the NBA app. You have to be subscribed to Peloton’s membership and then log into your own account for these apps to stream on the Tread’s screen.

There is also a “Just Run” mode that lets you do your own thing and track your metrics on a blank screen.

Onboard Workouts & Apps

So, what do you get if you don’t want to subscribe to Peloton’s All-Access Membership and just use the Peloton Tread? Well, not much. The functionality of the touchscreen is very limiting. You can still use the treadmill, but only by adjusting the speed and incline. There are no metrics or sample classes shown.

This is it, so be aware that if you want to use the screen to stream from Netflix and the other apps, you’ll need to pay for Peloton’s All-Access Membership.

Console

The Peloton Tread features a high-end and lovely 23.8” touchscreen. Not only is the size impressive, but the quality makes streaming Peloton’s workouts nice.

Peloton Tread - console

The screen has anti-glare, so you don’t have to worry about getting glare from overhead lighting.

The touchscreen tilts up and down so you can get a better view depending on your height. The screen doesn’t pivot to either side of the treadmill, though. If it pivoted, it would make taking Peloton’s mat classes and treadmill boot camp classes more convenient. However, the Peloton app is available on smart TVs.

Metrics like speed, pace (average and best), incline level, distance, watt output (total, average, and best), time, estimated calories, total elevation, and heart rate are displayed at the bottom of the screen in every class and Lanebreak workout.

You can pair a compatible heart rate monitor to the screen to track your heart rate and heart rate training zones. You can sync your Apple Watch and Garmin Watch and connect your Strava account for more tracking options, too.

Before each Peloton workout, you can see what muscle groups will be trained and look at what muscles you’ve worked in previous Peloton classes you’ve taken. This is available to view along with your workout history.

The front-facing speakers are fixed at the top of the screen. These project the sound at you. There are also speakers behind the screen. The speakers are clear, crisp, and offer plenty of volume. They’re also Bluetooth-enabled to pair with compatible headphones.

The console overall is very minimal. There isn’t a fan, so you’ll need to plug in your own if you get warm. There are also very few adjustment buttons. The buttons are roller buttons that are fixed on the inner sides of the handles to be right under your hands while running. I find these way more convenient than buttons while I’m running.

Peloton Tread - knobs

These knobs allow you to roll palms over the top to adjust the treadmill by 0.1 mph and 0.5% incline.

It can be a little hard to get to specific increments, especially if you accidentally roll these adjustments too much. Yet, you can press the inner parts of the roller adjustment knobs to adjust the treadmill by 1.0 mph and 1% incline from whichever levels you’re currently on. Aside from these buttons, there is just a stop button and a safety key on the console.

The Peloton Tread does offer an Auto-Incline feature that will adjust the grade of the deck based on the instructor’s cues during class. You can turn this on or off, and even when on, you can adjust the incline whenever you want.

On the right side of the screen are two speaker volume buttons. Other than these, that’s it for adjustment buttons on the console. You can select three different preset incline and speed settings on the screen for quicker adjusting. I typically use the adjustment knobs, but it’s nice to have another option.

The console has minimal storage, too. A tray is mounted to the front handle with two cup holders for your standard water bottle and a small cubby in between the cup holders for your phone or another small item. There isn’t a device rack to stream content from your phone or tablet, so you’re locked into the content on the screen.

The screen also locks when you aren’t using the treadmill, and if you aren’t using the touchscreen after around 45 seconds or so. You have to put in a 4-digit passcode (of your choosing) to unlock it. This safety feature should prevent unauthorized users (aka children) from using the treadmill.

Build Quality

The Peloton Tread has a sleek design that has helped pave the way for other treadmill brands to follow suit. Members of our team frequently call the Peloton Tread the best-looking treadmill in our studio.

Peloton Tread - hero

I like the minimalistic design of the Peloton Tread because it feels streamlined and not diminished.

To start, the Peloton Tread has a maximum 300 lb weight limit. The minimum weight is 105 lbs. If you weigh less than this minimum, you may trigger the child lock. Peloton also states that this treadmill is best for individuals between 4’1” and 6’4”. I believe this is due to the screen height primarily.

Frame

The carbon steel frame supports the deck. Two steel uprights connect to the floor frame and extend up to hold the handles and touchscreen. Overall, the Peloton Tread feels solid and stable to use. The console and screen shake a bit when running at higher speeds of 8-9+ mph or so.

Some screen wobble can be expected from treadmills with large touchscreens. However, certain models like the Bowflex Treadmill 22, Sole F85, and NordicTrack X22i feel a bit more stable with less console and screen shake compared to the Tread.

I like the look of the frame design, and the luxurious coating of the handles makes it feel high-end. The coating also helps keep the handles from feeling sweaty, which is extra important when you’re using the roller adjustment knobs. They have the same coating.

The side handles are just below your arms for balance, and the front handle is one continuous piece, which I prefer for added safety and stability while using the Peloton Treadmill.

Motor

The Peloton Tread has a 3.0 HP DC motor. This motor type is common for home treadmills. It’s what NordicTrack, ProForm, Horizon, Bowflex, and Sole have for their models that are made for home use. This motor is a little less powerful than comparable models from these brands, though. For instance, the NordicTrack 2450 has a 3.6 CHP motor, and the Sole F85 has a 4.0 HP motor, along with the NordicTrack X22i Incline Trainer.

Peloton Tread - action matt

Though the motor is what we recommend for light to moderate running, it has supported longer runs well.

We prefer the motor power of the other treadmills I just mentioned for heavier use. With that said, the Peloton Tread has handled regular use well over the past four years.

It goes up to 12.5 mph, which means running just under a 5-minute mile. Most home treadmills offer a 12 mph max speed. Most runners and exercise enthusiasts should have plenty of speed work to vary their training.

The motor is very responsive, meaning you’re never left waiting for it to adjust. It adjusts quickly compared to other treadmills. It takes around 18 seconds to go from 1 mph up to 12 mph. It is one of the fastest motors that we’ve tested, which makes it great for interval training.

Peloton Tread - action incline

The incline goes up to 12.5%.

Deck

For a non-folding deck, the Peloton Tread is a little more compact than other models. It is 20” wide and 59” long. Though the deck is 1” shorter than your standard running treadmill, the lack of motor hood gives you more functional space. There’s nothing to hit your foot against at the front of the treadmill.

At first, I thought not having a motor hood was scary. Would I step off the front? I’ve been running on the Tread regularly, and so far, I’ve never had any trouble with the waterfall deck. I’ve never come close to stepping off or hitting the front roller

Peloton Tread - deck

The red line down the middle of the belt helps me work on my running form.

It helps me to stay centered on the belt since I can’t run in a straight line. The belt edges are also tucked under the side rails for a clean look that helps the belt from getting debris underneath. It does make it a little more challenging to lubricate, though.

As far as the cushioning, which is the give in the deck when your feet land while running, the Peloton Tread has less shock absorption than others in its class. The minimal cushioning feels more like road running. It’s firm to run on, which isn’t best if you have joint issues or sensitivity. This is good if you are a road runner looking for a treadmill to simulate the experience of running outdoors.

Warranty

Peloton’s warranty is a bit less than that of other treadmill brands. The Tread comes with a 5-year frame warranty, a 3-year motor and belt warranty, and a 1-year warranty for most original components and the touchscreen. We prefer to see 10+ year warranties for the frame. Assembly is included with delivery for the Peloton Tread, though, which is nice and appreciated.

Should You Buy The Peloton Tread

There is no doubt that Peloton’s subscription training content is one of the best. They have an all-star lineup of instructors who are motivational and fun. The workout classes are of high quality and filmed in professional studios.

The leaderboard and curated musical playlists make each workout feel unique and energetic. If you want to subscribe and utilize all of Peloton’s content features, then you’ll need to buy one of the pieces of fitness equipment that Peloton offers.

For running workouts, the Peloton Tread is fantastic. It is a premium treadmill that will look nice in your home, though it requires a designated space. It is best for dedicated runners and Peloton subscribers, as you will also want the membership to get the most out of your experience.
